Thugs Blow Up Dog

A young dog has become one of the early victims of Halloween savagery, after its jaw was blown off when thugs apparently stuck a lit firework into its mouth.

Garddog2_indo_686045t.jpgai are now trying to track down a group of youths behind the horrific incident which happened on Cardiffsbridge Road in Finglas, Dublin, about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

The small tan terrier, believed to be two or three years old, was probably somebody's pet, the DSPCA believes.

Operations manager Orla Aungier said it was difficult to judge the the dog's age because of the damage to its mouth. All its teeth were blown out.

"The female dog was in good body weight and appeared to be somebody's pet, but we still do not know who the owner is."

Horrified members of the public began ringing gardai and the society around the same time on Wednesday night. When a DSPCA inspector got to the scene gardai had managed to contain the dog.

"The entire bottom jaw was blown off. There was no bone left. It was just pulp. The injuries were horrific. She lost a huge amount of blood.

Deliberate

"She was taken to our veterinary surgeon who was on standby. There was no alternative but to put it to sleep," said Ms Aungier.

"It is deeply concerning particularly if it was a deliberate act. It is alleged that the fire work was put in its mouth. Our inspector took about seven quick calls from gardai and people looking for help. He was told the firework was put in the dog's mouth."dog1_indo_686043t.jpg

"We are in shock and appalled. It also highlights the danger of fireworks being so easily available, even though they are illegal.

"We are appealing to anyone that has any information to contact the gardai or the DSPCA."

Why would you do that to an animal.. They are innocent creatures and yet people decide to torture them for no reason at all?

Come on, the people who did this deserve the same punishment!

Lets put a firecracker in their mouth and see if they like it.. Oh and after thats done bring them to the hospital and let the doctor say: we had to put "IT" to sleep

What cowards to torture a defenseless dog who was somebody's pet.  Let them have a million fireworks pushed down their gobs.  I hope they are dealt with soon.

This is such a horiffic act on a helpless animal.  The agony the poor thing must have gone through.  I hope whoever done this is caught and serves a long prison sentence for such an evil act.

Desperately sad to see this example of ignorance and barbarity.Campaign not just for justice but to raise awareness amongst pet owners so that pets are not roaming the streets unaccompanied. You wouldn't let a toddler out alone, so don't let your pets out alone.

When are the courts going to send out a strong message and take appropriate action against the type of scum who perpetrated this horrible act against a helpless creature. Unfortunately animal cruelty in this country is not dealt severly enough with lengthy custodial sentences rarely being handed down. These thugs seem to be able to give everyone two fingers and the law seems to be unwilling or powerless to do anything about it

The person/s who can do such harm to a helpless animal should be tracked down and sentenced to work at the animal welfare to clean the kennels 24 / 7 with a dogs collar on.

This type of cruelty to animals is a prelude to the violence these people can and probably will inflict upon humans as well.  To be able to do something this cruel without conscience shows a complete disregard for all living creatures.  It is important that the culprits are found not only for the protection of pets, but for the humans in that area as well.

I'm speechless. My heart cries out.  Anyway, aside from the fireworks being prohibited, maybe a resposible pet ownership should also be implemented.

Absolute evil... you can say what you want about their parents, banning fireworks, etc and all the other suggestions made but the fact is that this was a pure act of evil, anyone who has any idea of who carried this out should report them immediately, if people know who did it  and don't report them they are every bit as responsible..

Name and shame with photos in the paper.... little shits who are capable of this will go on to carry out worse acts later on..... There is nothing more cowardly than an attack on a defenseless animal.. Cowards....

I wish I hadn't seen the pics! absolutely appalling that someone would do this. that kind of mentality won't lead to much good so hopefully the people responsible will be found through running their mouths off and punished accordingly until the clarion calls.

This is just so sick:   what sort of society is it that breeds such monsters?  Unfortunately the likes of them would probably like the attention of having their photos in the papers.  Treating cowards like that with kid gloves will not help - they need corporal punishment: they should have the same done to them that they inflict on poor defenseless animals.

My Father had a rule about the due care that we should show the animals that surround us....simply put..."whatever you do to an animal will be done to you"....and so it should be!! - This is appalling and the group who committed this attrocity should be punished and the punishment should fit the crime!!!

I am angry, upset, and furious. The people who done this, must be jailed for life, the keys and lock must be melted, so that they never ever can escape, and their jaws must also be blown away, but please leave them without any medical help or assistance.  Let them suffer in the same way as this beautifull terrier.  I cannot believe that fire works is still available, I hope that the owner of the shop who sell this fire works will also be locked up for life.  When are people going to learn, treat all animals with respect and love.

PLEASE STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY

Sadly, this is not the first time this has happened in Dublin & will most likely not be the last either. There are a lot of very sick people in Ireland!! What laws we have are applied selectively or not at all. "The Cruelty Connection" has been well documented many years ago in a study in the USA where it was found that the ONLY thing all MAJOR SERIAL KILLERS had in common was a history of cruelty to animals in their childhood. To refer to the perpetrators of this atrocity as animals is an insult to the animals!!!

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. "

Add to this latest atrocity the fact that Ireland has the dubious reputation of being the puppy-farming capital of the world !! plus this country's record on child abuse & the numerous paedophile priests in other countries BUT with Irish surnames !!!! & you begin to realise why some of us are ashamed to be Irish!!!

Said this on 19/09/2010 At 10:28 pm

I think it's a very sad situation but we all know that the powers to prosecute these offenders is little or nothing.  Hopefully, the power of the people will move things forward for the better.

It  is so disturbing that some little useless good for NOTHING idiot thought this act of viciousness was at the time a great idea and fun!!  This fool must have been with others. Surely to god at least one of the others had to have been horrified at what they witnessed. If you are one of them, you really should come forward as this sicko needs to be treated!! Beware that this kind of behavour is dangerous! Regarding the fireworks.. these are so easy to get across the boarder and tbh it would be very hard to get rid of them. If there was a crackdown on fireworks, ud find that its these losers would still get theyre hands on them and it would be the responsible members of society who enjoy halloween and fireworks who end up loosing out, besides, this kind of cretin clearly doesnt need it to be close to halloween or have access to fireworks to carry on this way , this blockhead would have been up to some sort of barbarity because it seems to be in theyre evil nature.

I feel so sad for this little dog and the pain it must have suffered, the poor little thing. Lets hope that we can all learn from this and look out for ours and our neighbours pets and animals where ever they are because this is one in a massive number of animals who are victims of cruelty and mistreatment.

Lets also keep in mind that animals are not the only victims of people with this evil nature, we have got to mind our children and oursleves too!!

I could go on all night Im so infuriated. RIP little dog!

Said this on 19/09/2010 At 06:33 pm

Dispicable is the only polite term for this.  THe dusgisting low life abhorrent ba****ds must be made to pay for this.  Their age does not matter.  This dog is now dead instead of living a happy full life.  WHY!! because of the stupidity of so called humans.  These kids/thugs must be made to pay very publicly and for a long time for this.  If they are children then the parents must be held to account.  If they allow their children to have fireworks and know what they do with them then the social services should take the children away from them as it is not a safe environment.  Punishment must fit the crime in all cases!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Said this on 19/09/2010 At 06:15 pm

We must make sure that the whole nation is aware of what happened by any means possible and all dog owners need to be fully responsible for their animals by not leaving them even in the garden if they are not at home. It is vital that this atrocity never be given the chance to be copied by more equally disturbed/evil/juveniles. Sadly it is not only such people who are cruel, but often animal owners who are not even fit to keep an animal, so we need to get the message out there that they WILL be reported if they treat their animals in a cruel manner or expose them to cruelty by not taking care of their safety. We cannot afford for people to become complacent once this dreadful occurance is old news as nomatter how old it becomes, the outcry it brings for more vigilance by animal lovers and a change in attitudes of the general public should continue. We are affording such thugs an honor they certainly do not deserve by calling them animals. We do a diservice to animals by doing so.

Said this on 19/09/2010 At 05:57 pm

This is just horrific. I cannot understand how can somebody do such a terrific act of cruelty. How can anyone even come up with this. All I can think of is, it starts with animals, who are they going to attack next! They need to be caught and charged...

Said this on 19/09/2010 At 05:34 pm

this kind of news sickens me! It was an innocent dog who done no harm to anybody and was somebodies pet, same on the culprits! Hopefully somebody will speak up and report them before they done it again.

Said this on 19/09/2010 At 05:25 pm

I feel physically sick. These people are mindless cretins. How can anyone do such an appalling thing to a dog or any animal for that matter. The person that sold them the firework in the first place should be prosecuted. As for the cretins, I would put the firework where the sun doesnt shine. Be interesting to watch their reaction and listen to their screams for help. We have to stop cruelty to animals.  I really hope they catch them, I doubt that the fine will fit this appalling crime. No animal should suffer like this one did.

I so empathise with what you feel as I too had to restrain myself from using the language which came to mind on seeing this. I feel so strongly that we have to begin without delay to educate the public about animal welfare and cruelty and it's consequenes. We have to take this education to primary schools to ensure that the message is being sent to young children in the hope that they will grow up to be more aware and responsible adults. Bus stops, rail stations and other public places frequented by the public on a regular basis must use their bill boards to display animal cruelty. The media have a responsibility to do this as much as they have in showing explicit clips of car crashes to drive home the message of drunk driving. Animal lovers need to be reassured that they can report all animal cruelty they witness anonomously. There is a hesitance among so many people to do this because they fear repercussion. The law needs to be changed with regard to puppy farms and other cruel supposed breeders who are breeding not for the love of animals but for gain, using the same unfortunate bitch until she becomes diminished and then dumped. There is such a long list of cruelty to animals in so many ways and we witness this every day when passing houses where dogs are left all day tied up with no exercise or proper human contact. Why do so many of our dogs go to the UK for re-homing? What does this say about us and what we are as a nation? Yes there are many wonderful animal lovers in this country, but not enough an those of us who are should be more pro-active in showing it by reporting all cruelty. Vetinary practices could do far more to promote animal welfare and not shy away from depicting images of cruelty to drive home the message. They freely adveritise and sell food products on their premises, but rarely does one see any reference to animal cruelty. We have such a responsibility towards God's creatures and we should start showing it before we witness more horrific scenes such as the sick treatment of this little dog.

Said this on 20/09/2010 At 10:41 am

I couldnt believe what I was seeing, how could somebody do this to an animal.

makes my blood boil how people can treat animals like this what makes them think they are in some way superior, animals dont understand when someone is being cruel they just crave affection and attention like children and should be treat that way.

we need to do something about cruelty to animals this was murder and should be treated as a murder case.

Poor little baby, RIP little one x
