Thugs Blow Up Dog

A young dog has become one of the early victims of Halloween savagery, after its jaw was blown off when thugs apparently stuck a lit firework into its mouth.

Garddog2_indo_686045t.jpgai are now trying to track down a group of youths behind the horrific incident which happened on Cardiffsbridge Road in Finglas, Dublin, about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

The small tan terrier, believed to be two or three years old, was probably somebody's pet, the DSPCA believes.

Operations manager Orla Aungier said it was difficult to judge the the dog's age because of the damage to its mouth. All its teeth were blown out.

"The female dog was in good body weight and appeared to be somebody's pet, but we still do not know who the owner is."

Horrified members of the public began ringing gardai and the society around the same time on Wednesday night. When a DSPCA inspector got to the scene gardai had managed to contain the dog.

"The entire bottom jaw was blown off. There was no bone left. It was just pulp. The injuries were horrific. She lost a huge amount of blood.

Deliberate

"She was taken to our veterinary surgeon who was on standby. There was no alternative but to put it to sleep," said Ms Aungier.

"It is deeply concerning particularly if it was a deliberate act. It is alleged that the fire work was put in its mouth. Our inspector took about seven quick calls from gardai and people looking for help. He was told the firework was put in the dog's mouth."dog1_indo_686043t.jpg

"We are in shock and appalled. It also highlights the danger of fireworks being so easily available, even though they are illegal.

"We are appealing to anyone that has any information to contact the gardai or the DSPCA."

It's just too horrible for words. Do unto others as you would have done unto you, on that basis the imbociles who did this deserve the same treatment, If an eye for an eye  as it were, was the punishment such atrocities would soon cease.

This is an unforgivable cruelty to one of God's innocent creatures. We must not let this go until the perpetrators are found, named, shamed and jailed. How upsetting and to think that even in jail they will not suffer like this dear little creature. I am glad the image was shown as we need to see the reality of what happened. Would insist on the thugs who did this being made to study that picture at length. They must be incredibly dysfunctional to do this, or are they perhaps evil? I pray for the owner/owners of this little animal that they will find comfort in their distress  should they be aware of what happened to their beloved animal. No, of course our animals should not be allowed to roam freely for their own safety, but it is also possible that this little animal was released on purpose from his garden or even stolen in some other way. This should be enough to start a petition to have fireworks totally banned. They are a serious menace to humans and animals alike.

The thugs that did that, to that little innocent dog, are evil and they deserve a jail sentence.

Hard to believe that some people(savages?) could be so heartless.   Some poor family will be greiving for the loss of their beloved pet.   It must have had a friendly  temperament if it allowed them to get so close as to put the thing in its mouth

What a sickening and despicable act by our next generation (God Help Us All!)  The worst part of this crime is that when and if these scum are caught, we will be told of their extreme youthfulness or broken lives... how they don't know any better... BULLSHIT!  They will get a reprimand and sent on their way.  Bring back the BIRCH; send them to BORSTAL (with no special treatment or holidays - paid for by us - for good behaviour.)  It's time for a change in the law.  If you're old enough to do the crime, you're old enough to do the time!

This is so upsetting..i feel sick...if anyone did that to my dog i would hunt them down and skin them alive...you would be guaranteed the guards would find me quicker than those Scumbags...there is more protection in this country for people who break the law than the animals...if that is their idea of having fun i'd hate to see what sort of up bringing they had...only way to sort the likes of that out is to do exactly the same to them..or better still chop their hands off..wont do it again..make an example of them...dirt bags..should be locked up for life..

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the maximum jail sentence for animal cruelty is 3 months. These scum bags when caught should have their photos displayed on the front page of the national newspapers therefore  like Larry Murphy will be ostracized by society and have to leave. The cat and nine tails for them as a reminder as well.

My cousin's German shepherd and cocker spaniel would always try to grab fireworks and carry them around if not kept away from them. I think at one point the shepherd got a Roman candle and it was somehow taken away from her without harm. Hopefully the dog in the story was injured due to her natural instinct to grab and carry objects around and not because someone deliberately forced the firework into her mouth.

We should re-read the opening script before jumping to conclusions as there are at least two possibilities:

"It is deeply concerning particularly if it was a deliberate act. It is alleged that the fire work was put in its mouth. Our inspector took about seven quick calls from gardai and people looking for help. He was told the firework was put in the dog's mouth."

Trained faithful Terriers like these often pick up and run with sticks in their mouths. This beautiful girl could very well have snatched a lighted cracker and run away with it not knowing impending danger! Very sad and unfortunate but dogs can do these things.

Imagine a couple of excited kids with a few bungers when suddenly a neighbors dog runs out and grabs it and takes off thinking its a big game. Maybe it was the children’s own dog? Consider the impact on the kids seeing it happen - just as horrified as we are. Imagine them running to hide in fear and shame and???

Maybe the children were yours?

ON THE OTHER HAND - If this was a deliberate act and the firecracker was put into the dogs mouth then the above judgments have merit.

The problem becomes multi-layered with no simple fix: Uncontrolled Internet purchases, irresponsible consumers, greedy retailers, a corrupted social conscience with the daily load of painful human mistakes. It points to a society that has lost its traditional values.

Tragic but if this dog was deliberately injured as some type of macabre joke then this beautiful pet illustrates our social problems far too well which is a sad fact of modern life!

Thank you Mr. Vet for taking care of it.

Year after year.......this sort of action is beyond comment. It's hard to find words. There should be a dedicated 'Pet Patrol' keeping watch on the thugs in these areas. You know, of course, that if one says that there are thugs living in certain districts you'll be told the usual 'they're just children' nonsense. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOUR. NONE.

1 - This spawn generally come from like parents.

2 - What was the poor dog doing out on it's own?

3 - The owners of the dog as well as the perps should be prosecuted.

Make an example by heavily penalising perpetrators and owners of animals for cases such as this to send a message that this IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Countries should step up in the cases of animal cruelty because it's going on far more than people realise and to much more of an extent too.

This is disgusting. What are people think. I have no words to say to people like that. They should be locked up.  Maybe they should spend time with animals to see what beautiful creatures they are. i have had my puppy for only two years and i love her so. Anyone touch her and they will have me to deal with.  Open your eyes and love our animals.

I think the mention of Halloween as a motivation for this thuggery is misleading. Nov 5th Guy Faulkes Night is surely what you mean.

Course it might be different in Ireland but the historic Celtic festival of "  Samhein" which celebrates life and joy is  not usually a motivation for this sort of mindless cruelty. Nov 5th "Bonfire Night" is of course a different kettle of fish.

Scott
Said this on 21/09/2010 At 05:29 pm

Patricia, I think you ascribe too great a sense of intelligence to the despicable brutes who perpetrated this heinous act, when you make a distinction between halloween and Guy Fawkes and the misuse of fireworks.  The use of fireworks here in Ireland, inarguably, is as a result of American influence.  It was in America that the celebration of halloween gained significant popularity which then caught on here, through the influence of TV and films.  Guy Fawkes has never been of any significance in this country as it's connotations would be relatively unknown to Irish youngsters!  So I think you need to look to the other side of the pond if you are seeking to lay the blame outside of the stupidity and cruelty of our own, homebred, monsters!

BAN ALL FIREWORKS - Please pray that these souls that done this be saved from the devil that they allowed to enter their life.

It is horrific to see all  the hate & destruction that goes on - it is no wonder that the world is in such a state.  - The end times is nearer than we think.

No discipline, no love, rejection - are we the elders to blame?  Everything is about the god money and satisfaction - and only ME that counts!!!!!

I WANT, I WANT, & IF I DON'T GET - I TAKE

May the LORD have mercy on our souls
