Dog Rescue Volunteering in Sri Lanka
If dog rescue is your passion and you enjoy helping out stray dogs, you can visit a volunteer program with dogs. It's a small and peaceful town in southern Sri Lanka called Ambalangoda.
Some of your responsibilities at this shelter include assisting with vaccinations, coming up with dog training and other activities, maintaining the shelter, providing meals, and so on. Besides that, you will also be responsible for taking the dogs out for walks and making sure they are showered and clean.
This animal shelter organises animal welfare education initiatives which raise awareness about stray dogs and how important it is to reduce the number of abandoned and stray dogs on the streets of Sri Lanka. By educating the whole community and raising awareness about this important issue, you are helping the dogs of Sri Lanka to find their forever homes and a place where they will be loved and cherished.
Animal Care in Guatemala
Another great animal care project can be found in Antigua, Guatemala. The minimum assignment is one week, but you can stay longer than that. You will soon find how much work needs to be done there. As you start exploring the region, you will quickly realise that in certain parts of the country people live comfortably enough, but that’s not the case everywhere. In many places, people are economically disadvantaged and taking care of the animals is definitely not high on the list of their priorities.
That is why any kind of help with animals in this country is more than welcome. There are numerous assignments you can choose from to take care of animals in Guatemala. For instance, you can volunteer in dog shelters where you will be dedicating about 4 hours a day for basic care of the dogs. This includes socializing, grooming, cleaning, and providing medication for the dogs. Some of these projects also include the education element, meaning that you get a chance to work with the rest of the community. During these programs you will be providing valuable information regarding animal care and how to keep the dogs healthy and safe.
Anyone at the age of 16 and above is welcome to join these programs, and you don’t have to speak Spanish in order to participate in any of these projects. Overall, this can be an amazing experience where you can provide the needed help for sheltered and stray animals while also teaching the locals how to carry on with the health care system even after you leave. It can also be a great experience for you when it comes to getting to know a different culture and lifestyle of the locals in Guatemala.
Animal Care in Argentina
There’s a reason why many people call Buenos Aires the Paris of South America. You can have a chance of finding out why by joining the Love Volunteer’s animal care project that takes place in Argentina.
While spending some time in Argentina you will be able to contribute to a very special cause by volunteering at an animal shelter. Founded about a decade ago, this shelter is on a mission to make a difference. What started out as an amazing project targeted towards helping dogs of Argentina, has since expanded and now the shelter takes care of over 150 animal species including dogs, cats, parrots, cows, ducks, rabbits, and more.
During your off-hours, you get to enjoy the beautiful streets of Argentina, visit the MALBA museum, bike through the city, try some of the delicious local food, and maybe even try learning to tango.
Dog Rescue Volunteering in Peru
In Peru, you’ll have a chance to fulfil your dream of helping dogs by providing the much needed help to the shelter staff with feeding, walking and nurturing the stray dogs back to health. Besides just the regular maintenance, your responsibility is to raise awareness about animal welfare as well as to educate the community on this matter and find creative ways to improve the conditions for these dogs.
This is a great destination to volunteer overseas where you can explore the Incan citadel, soak in the stunning views of the highlands, and taste some of the most delicious cuisine in the world.
Animal Care in South Africa
Lastly, South Africa should be on the bucket list of everyone who would like to volunteer with animals abroad. Apart from having some of the most beautiful landscapes and offering snorkel and scuba courses, this country has plenty of programs where you can work with stray dogs.
For instance, Philippi may be one of the largest townships in the country, but the population is not that big. Most of the land is dedicated to farming and the households don’t have enough adequate resources to take care of the dogs. So, the population of stray dogs is constantly growing. To help them solve this issue, you can apply for their animal care programs and help them take care of these dogs the proper way.
Conclusion
So, if you love to care for dogs and would love to travel abroad, why not combine the two and spend some time overseas nurturing stray dogs and helping them live more fulfilling lives?
