Why Affenpinschers Are Not Suited For Small Children

  • 25/10/2010

Affenpinschers are characterized to be adorable and small. Many assume that this dog is perfect for young children. Unfortunately they are not the best for young members of the family. There are few reasons why this is so. Because they are considered as a toy dog, there are very fragile. They are so small that you can step on them. They can curl up like a small ball. Children that are small are agile and they could accidentally injure the pet by stepping on it. The dog can be squeezed or dropped. If they are playing, the child can get rough. Your child might get bitten as a form of defense for the dog.

Another reason why Affenpinschers is not a good choice as a family dog is because they are quite sensitive to noise. They are overwhelmed with movements and excitements. This dog tends to be nervous and defensive. They are considered to be high strung. They want a calm environment. They often tremble when they are excited and nervous. It could lash out to those who are disturbing its peace.

Affenpinschers are so territorial especially to food and toys. The behavior could be lessened with training. Small children would not understand the warning signs that a dog feels agitated or threatened. Sometimes children would pet dogs while eating, this could be dangerous. The dog can feel threatened that the food would be taken away. If a child tries to grab the dog's toy, it could result in a bite.

Affenpinschers can think bigger than they really are. They are loyal to families and a good watch dog. If you have a visitor, the dog could feel insecure. They are not afraid to attack people if they know that the family is attacked even if it just in a playful manner. The truth is proper training is the key so that these characteristic can be outgrew. It needs strict discipline. Every parent should think twice before getting this dog as house pet. Although they are wonderful pets, you need to take warnings before buying one.
