Did you know the breed was originally bred for the sport of Bull Baiting and or Bear Baiting? The name "bull" was applied to the dog breed because of the job he was bred to perform at that time. The dog that grabbed the bull by the nose and pinned it to the ground first would be the winner in the ring.

Did you know that the original bulldogs were crossed with the pug to produce a shorter, wider dog with a brachycephalic skull? This was to achieve the look of our current bulldogs. The original bulldogs resembled that more of an American Bulldog and or American Pit Bull Terrier.

Did you know that over 80% of bulldogs are Artificially Inseminated to produce puppies?

Did you also know that over 80% of Bulldog litters are delivered by Caesarean section due to birthing issues that can arise in the breed?

Hence the term Man Made Breed was developed.

It is hard to believe that bulldog we know today, that large bouncing bundle of wrinkles and joy; was once bred to be ferocious, courageous, and almost insensitive to pain. Our sweet loveable bully was once specifically bred for Bull Baiting. Fortunately it did not take long to find out what the Bulldogs true calling in life was to be. (Loved on and Spoiled)

Once you see a bulldog puppy you will realize quickly there is no other breed that compares. We realize that ALL puppies are adorable but try to beat the face of a bulldog puppy.. (We are a little bias and the first to admit to it) Most bulldog owners find them to be an addiction (Kind of like an Oreo Cookie) meaning you cannot have just one.

The Bulldog is a stocky medium size breed that is known for its wrinkled face, its muscular body and loving personality. Bulldogs are now noted to be one of the most popular breeds according to AKC® Registration Statistics due to their lovable and gentle dispositions and adorable wrinkles. Bulldogs are recognized as excellent family pets because of their tendency to form strong bonds with children. Bulldogs are just that a companion dog, happiest when they can be a part of the family's everyday life. Although they may have a stout aggressive appearance, they are not known for being a guard dog. Their main goal when intercepting an intruder may be because they want their tails rubbed and some additional attention. The down fall to owning a bulldog maybe their lack of manners. Lol They may drool and slobber a little -- especially after eating and drinking. They may also pass wind (flatulence) feeding a better quality dog food usually helps in that area. Bulldogs are also known to snore loudly, snort and grunt frequently.

The wonderful thing about the Bulldog breed is they require minimal grooming and moderate exercise. Bulldogs love to go for walks and play but for short periods. A long walk and you may be carrying your bulldog home. With this being said bulldogs are great additions for ALMOST every household. Bulldogs should live inside and should never be left alone outside for long periods of time. Their short nose makes them prone to overheating in warm weather.. Extra caution should be used in warmer climates and during summer months. Bulldogs must be given plenty of shade and water, and must be kept out of standing heat. Air conditioning and good ventilation is required to keep them healthy and sound.
