Westie Toilet Training
- 26/11/2010
Problems may occur while training your westie for potty, but this is not your fault neither is of your pup. Westie puppies cannot hold long of their bowls and they soon have to go for potty. But you don't have to get upset. If nothing goes in the right track, just start the whole training process again and this will surely work. Here are some of the tips that will be helping you to potty train your westie dog.
1. Before bringing your westie home: You have set up a sleeping spot like in kitchen. Use cardboard paper as a bed for your pup. These boards are warm and are permanent. It is recommended to get these cardboards 2 weeks before you get your westie home. Extend them over the entire floor.
2. Bring home westie baby: Take your westie to his new bed encouraging him. By any mean, your puppy must feel warm and comfortable with the cardboard because the breeder has already used something same. You don't have to interrupt your pup, you have to wait for him to wake up and only then you can play with him.
3. Potty training:
Part one: for the first, you have to gather lot of patience. Your pup has to go for potty every time they wake up from sleep, after the meal and before bed time. So be vigilant during this time. It will be very much easy to train your dog for paper toilet training because the breeder has already introduced him with this paper training. But, in case not, then also it is not so hard to train them for this. There must be a specific routine for this training and once they have learned the routine, they will start to do potty at the same place where you wanted forever.
Part two: puppy usually do their wee at only certain 2 or 3 places. Here you can move the outer edges of the paper to the toilet spot. And, don't forget to place the paper at the exact place where it was kept before. After some days, you can now reduce the number of paper. In some case, accidents may happen but chastising your pups won't do well as the dog will not understand it. Once they paper is reduced to single piece, you can now move the paper outside because your main motive is to have your dog to do his potty outside.
Part three: there is no time boundary for this training because each and every dog breeds is different. The more time you put in the training, greater the reward be. They may learn in one week or even take a month to be well potty trained. After you have move the paper out, don't forget to leave the piece of paper at the same place each time. You can now command your westie with the repeated word every time your pup performs the task. Never let yourself down if your puppy ignores you. This will definitely works if your puppy is calm. You have to clearly watch their signals and their body languages to understand them and let them out at the same place before for their relaxation.
