Initially bred for hunting purposes, the Welsh terrier dog has risen to become a show dog. Many, for developing terriers with coloration and wiry coats, have bred this native breed of Wales. As the Welsh terrier dog is an extremely mild mannered dog, many people opt for this breed as a pet.

Welsh terriers may not be as high energy as some other breeds, but it is a terrier, and so by default contains a substantial amount of energy. For this reason, they need proper and regular exercise. Another important aspect is socializing the dog as soon as possible, preferably at an earlier and younger age. This makes the dog friendlier towards people and also helps the dog develop a good level of tolerance when it comes to other animals. These terriers usually like children and are friendly around them. But the children should not pester or provoke it too much.
There are many different methods for training these dogs. You must remember that with a Welsh terrier dog, you must be gentle but firm. These dogs can be taught a range of tricks which they can perform. Frisbee and other fly ball tricks are the most skillful qualities they possess.
A welsh terrier dog's loose and dead hair must be removed at least once every week by a giving its coat a good brush. This will ensure that the dog does not shed too much inside the house. Use a damp washcloth to regularly remove dirt and dust from the dog's coat, as regularly giving it a bath is not really necessary.
A fenced yard is the best place to keep a welsh terrier as they have such high levels of energy. There is enough space here for the dog to play catch. If you can manage to take the dog for regular exercise, then perhaps you might do away with the fenced yard.
The Welsh terrier dog is very popularly known for its amazing ability to jump. This ability amuses and entertains a large amount of people. Its long legs are responsible for its ability to hop and jump so much.
