Potential Weimaraner Health Problems

Weimaraner can have many types of health problems, just like we do. The difference is that Weimaraners can't tell you they are sick. The Weimaraner will often just suffer until the pain gets serious. So it's important to identify the indicators and the steps you can take to catch it in time.

Infections - Weimaraner can have several types of infections in their eyes, on their skin, on their teeth and in their ears. Ear infections are the most common infection and can be caused by something lodged in the ear or bacteria. Check your Weimaraner ears regularly for excess moisture, red spots, swelling or dirt. Clean your Weimaraners eyes of sediment scrub their teeth and comb their fur frequently to help stop any possible bacteria build up. Of all Weimaraner health problems, infections are the easiest to prevent.

Allergies - Weimaraners have many types of allergies. Flea allergies can cause irritations that can cause infections. Give the flea medicine to your Weimaraner monthly and get a vet examination once every six months. It may also be a food allergy that is causing the skin problems, infections or some other small hot spot that are easy to miss. If you still can't find the source take him to your vet as it could be a food allergy.

Diabetes - There are many Weimaraner health problems and diabetes is one of those diseases. Excess fatty, rich and sugary types of food can cause pancreatic problems that can bring on diabetes. To make sure you avoid diabetes, keep your Weimaraner on a healthy diet with a variety of dog foods to keep him from getting bored with the same diet. Do not feed your table leftovers to him or let him have excess meals. If your Weimaraner is diagnosed with having diabetes, you may need to see a veterinarian at set periods and may need to give regular injections.

Dysplasia and Arthritis - Some Weimaraner are highly vulnerable to joint problems. Weimaraner especially have a history of arthritis fitness problems due to their long and narrow joints. Try to see that your Weimaraner receives the vitamins and minerals it needs every day and your veterinarian checks the joints for deterioration once a year.

Obesity - Obesity is one of the most frequent Weimaraner health issues and is mainly caused by not enough exercise and having been fed too much. Obesity itself doesn't lead to death, but the higher the chances of heart failure, liver disease, tumours, and skin complications together are extremely dangerous if not looked after immediately. Obesity can be controlled with a well prepared diet and keeping up a dog's exercise levels.

As long as you're Weimaraner gets a lot of daily exercise, eats healthy every day, and you keep him well groomed and clean, a lot of the health problems will never crop up. But always take your dog to the vet for his annual check up to catch any potential problems. The sooner you find out about the disease, the easier it will be to treat it.
