Toy Poodle Training - Simple Tips

  • 26/11/2010

You have known about the training tips for standard poodle and the gear required for the field training, either that is for hunting or retrieving. And the same principle is applied to the toy poodle training too. The activities are also same as that of the standard poodle.

Still you have to make a list of the basic training tips for your toy poodle. And here are some given.

1. You can make each of the training session positive and interesting at the beginning and at the end with something that your dog loves and good at. Like retrieving a tennis ball, a short swim after a workout or run over an "A frame", etc.

2. Make their training session short and positive. Never let your puppy to play with squeaky chew toy and to chew on bumpers. This will create mouth problems to your toy poodle when they grow older.

3. When introducing your dog to birds note for the first time, they will either rip the bird or chew it. If this happens more than one time, don't give him any bird unless he had finished the last given. Remember, it will be easier to get rid of the bad behavior at the initial stage than to lodge a bad behavior pattern.

4. The toy poodle training is incomplete without introducing them to the water. They must be introduced to the water when the water and weather isn't too cold. You can take another dog that can swim to train your poodle to swim. Let them play chase game. When your dog sees how much fun is it then, they will swim often. They will learn this quickly. But if the dog isn't going for the swimming even at 6 to 12 months then, you can start "force fetch". It is a great success for those young dogs who love to retrieve into the water. Even the poodle that haven't been for swimming for eleven years, have been trained to retrieve from the water with these methods.

5. You have to keep record for each training session. What you have worked on, how the dog have responded to your lessons, problems observed, solving the problems, ideas about the sessions, what you have learned, what you plan for next session and many more. Don't use the new concept different from before during this toy poodle training. If the previous lesson haven't been learned, then they will be confused and both of you can get frustrated.
