  • 12/03/2014

These days there are an increased number of adverts offering English bulldog puppies for sale. These are not cheap dogs and they do come with a number of factors which taken into consideration, including the fact that they are exceptionally stubborn, especially when it comes to training.

When you first bring your new puppy home, you will have a good idea on what to expect. You've probably read a bit about the breed before making any decisions to welcome one into your home. They are fantastic pets, even though they are stubborn.

Training these dogs takes patience ready to find yourself frustrated at times. It's essential that you keep all training sessions as positive as possible. Positive reinforcement will work well on these dogs, so whatever you do, don't turn to smack the dog or shout at them while training.

Start training from the minute you bring the pup home, this usually starts with house training and then within a few weeks you can start on the basic sit and stay routines.

When training English bulldog puppies you will need some treats, but make sure that you don't overdo the treats, causing the dog to put on unnecessary weight.

Many breeders will recommend clicker training when training English bulldog puppies as it is easier for the animal to understand and easier for you to get your timing perfect.

Unless you have trained many of dogs, getting the timing right during training isn't easy. If you tell a dog to sit, you need to say the word as they take a seat and immediately praise them. Try and withhold the patting and getting the dog excited when they do the required task correctly.

Keep the training sessions short, ten minutes a few times a day will work fine. Because English bulldog puppies are stubborn, they quickly lose interest even when armed with treats, which is why short sessions will give the best results.

Ensure you praise your dog when it does well. English bulldog puppies are the same as any other puppy in that they want your praise and approval, but their personalities may make the process take a little longer than if you were training a border collie, such as.

Bear in mind that your puppy wants your approval and work with this to give the results you are looking for.

Don't rush the training sessions, rather work at the dogs pace and keep them involved and interested in the work for a short time and then take a break, let them play and chew as puppies do before returning to the training session a little later.

Don't miss a day of training, reinforcement is essential especially when trying to train a dog that is stubborn and has a mind of its own. Stay calm and don't start a training session if you are not in the right frame of mind yourself.

If you've had a bad day at work and you're frustrated, then starting a training session is the last thing you want to do as you won it have to deal with a puppy that is more interested in their chew toy than the work at hand.
