Things You Should Know About Yorkshire Terrier
- 16/03/2011
The Yorkshire Terriers are the breed which are very unique and special in their huge personalities in their small body. They need absolute care from you because of their high returns in the areas of pleasure and friendship.
The Yorkshire Terriers are the ideal pets for those who do not have spacious homes as these are toy breeds and generally do not weigh more than 7 pounds.
Although their sizes are small, they have the attitude of the bigger dogs. They are great watchdogs. They have temperament too. The Yorkshire Terriers have great intelligence and they can identify things very easily. This has come from their rat and vermin hunting instincts. Moreover they are very loyal and faithful. They become friends easily with caring people and with the family members- especially with older children and matured members. The yorkies get frightened of small children because they scare them or make fun of them.
The Yorkies are very loyal in guarding your house and your belongings. No stranger can cross their path as they are very alert and sensitive to unwanted movements in their surroundings.
Yorkies like to receive attention and care from others. They can be easily trained but supervision is needed all the time because they can easily learn bad habits. Make them learn how to socialize because if it is not done, they will be rude with strangers and unseen people. They will bark unnecessarily when they see them.
Crate training is the best way to train a yorkie at home because a crate is like a den and the puppy likes to be in it for some relaxation. You can also travel in car, train or airplane by keeping the dog in the crate besides holding him. Holding the dog all the time makes it uncomfortable.
The Yorkshire Terrier is fond of exercises. They love walking, running and playing but do not like cold weather. So they should always be kept in a warm atmosphere.
The life span of a Yorkshire Terrier is about 15 or more than 15 years. They are healthy too and get used to new environments very soon.
Yorkies have long coats which need to be groomed and trimmed on a regular basis in order to make them look clean and tidy. The hair can also be clipped. People having allergies find it less difficult as the coat is real hair and not fur. It is also easier to bath the Yorkies as compared to other breeds because they have no undercoats. The dog enjoys when it is groomed.
