The Miniature Pinscher, also known as a MinPin, is a high-spirited little doggie that can be extremely stubborn.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) recommends, in no uncertain terms, that this dog is only suitable for experienced owners and handlers.

I'm not sure I would go quite that far -- but I do know that the MinPin can be suspicious of strangers and aggressive with other dogs. Think "little man syndrome."

Appearance of the Miniature Pinscher

The Miniature Pinscher, as you would expect, looks just like a "Mini Me" version of the Doberman Pinscher -- right down to the coloring. It really is very cool.

Their coat is short and smooth and the color is usually the traditional black and red or a chocolate brown.

The MinPin does have an interesting walk. Sort of a high-stepping prance. Kinda like a Tennessee Walking Horse -- or the Russian Army.

Grooming and Exercise Needs of the Miniature Pinscher

MinPins only need a once a week or so light brushing, but they do need to be exercised briskly and often. These dogs are chock plumb-full of high spirited energy.

The Miniature Pinscher originated in Germany in the 18th century where it was used to help control rats. Today this proud little hunter is kept strictly as a pet.
