Staffordshire Bull Terrier Training Tips
- 26/11/2010
Here are some quick Staffordshire Bull Terrier training tips that will help get your Staffie under control and obedience trained.
Start Staffordshire Bull Terrier Training Young
Training Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppies will be quicker as they will learn faster, like a dry sponge ready to soak up whatever you teach them. Training adult Staffies may take longer as they may have bad habits to unlearn first.
Be Patient
Remember that training a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, puppy or adult, will take as long as it takes. Some things your Staffie will learn in seconds, others may take days, weeks or even months. If you feel that you or your dog are getting frustrated then it's time to stop training for now and try again later. But always try to...
End a Training Session on a Positive Note
You want your Staffie to enjoy your training sessions so end at a point where you can praise him, ensuring he will think of training as a good thing. Keeping sessions short will help too.
Lots of Excercise & Attention
The more time you spend bonding with your dog the more responsive he will be with you when training. Taking your Staffie for long walks is a good way of doing this as he will also be better behaved when he's used up some energy. Staffs love attention, and he will appreciate you playing with him and talking to him, even if he doesn't understand what you're saying!
Socialise Your Dog
Dogs learn how to behave towards other dogs, from other dogs. Taking your Stafford to a dog training club will ensure he learns how to get on with others, plus you will pick up some dog training advice aimed directly at your Staffie.
Be Consistent
Make sure you, and anyone else involved in your Stafford's training, always use the same commands, gestures, praise and reprimands. Otherwise your Stafford will get confused and not understand what is expected of him.
I hope you found these Staffordshire Bull Terrier training tips useful.
