Pekingese Weight Issues

  • 23/11/2010

A Pekingese contrary to all myths is not an over active little pet. The Pekingese is content to sit and lay around your home or as close to you as they can get. The Pekingese is your friend and companion until the end and it is your responsibility to help your little friend maintain his or her proper weight.

Now being a Pekingese lover, I want my babies all to have plenty of good quality food. Therefore, I feed them ample amounts of Alpo or the tractor supply, dog food brands. Both of these are good quality foods with everything my little pack require.

On occasion one of my girls gets a little chunky, as she loves her food. Therefore, I have to watch here closely and when she starts to get overweight, I have to bring her indoors and ration her intake of daily food. I also have to take her for walks until she reduces in weight.

This little breed of dog does have weight issues just like any other type of pet. The extra weight is not good for the Pekingese as it puts extra stress on the heart, the lungs and other organs of the little dog's body. This is why I have to closely, monitor her at all times.

The other members of the small pack get their exercise playing with each other and running around the yard playing with their toys when I go out to play with them. However, one or two of them just wish to be held and cuddled by me and do not wish to bother with playtime.

Therefore, I have to initiate these individuals into play with me. Whatever it takes, to keep them active and happy I must do. It is my responsibility as well as all the other duties like brushing, bathing and feeding, this takes effort. Having eight Pekingese babies to love and care for can be time consuming. However, I love the little chunky one just as much as I do all the others and she needs some extra attention at times.

If you have a pet or a Pekingese that has weight issues please do not overlook them and think the problem will remedy it's self. It will, not the problem will only worsen and this is dangerous to your pets health. You must begin working on this matter as soon as it begins. Otherwise, your pets life could be in serious danger, you do not want to loose your beloved pet to an issue that could be easily, fixed.
