Is the German Pinscher Right For Me?
- 13/11/2015
We all know the saying "A dog is a man's best friend." We continue to see how much this has been proven true throughout history. With the variety in breeding, a dog owner should know quite well just what characteristics and habits he should expect in his dog.
Take, for example, someone considering a German Pinscher. What exactly does Pinscher mean? And what is to be expected from this dog?
The word "Pinscher" is a illustrative term like "settler" or "terrier." It indicates the dog's way of working, not necessarily his heritage. The word Pinscher refers to a dog's pattern of jumping on and biting fiercely its target.
Despite the origin of their name, these medium-sized dogs are known for being loving companions with good temperaments. They are generally friendly dogs, though they are protective of their families and may be unsure of strangers. In fact, it has been said of this dog that if it shies away when met with a stranger, that is a sign of poor breeding.
Because the pinscher is highly intelligent, they learn quickly and get bored with repetition. They are also very energetic and great working dogs, some requiring several hours of exercise per day. It is encouraged to have a large yard for them to run in, but one with a secure fence as well.
Many people love the Doberman Pinscher, but do not forget about this breed that is just a medium version of the dobe. They are known for being courageous and vivacious, even into their older years. But they also have a sweet disposition and are very affectionate.
The Pinscher is well liked for its elegant appearance, moderate body structure, and strong square build. They are muscular and powerful for agility and endurance. This makes them great for hunting, but doesn't limit them to just that.
It is vital that they receive good nutrition and feeding to maintain their natural physique. You will want to contribute to their shiny, healthy coat as well through diet since their coat requires so little maintenance. Do your homework on what food works best for these special dogs.
These dogs are known for having high-energy and being athletic, but they are great family dogs as well, and have generally good health. Why not invite one into your life and see what makes German Pinschers so special? Maybe this dog will turn out to be your best friend.
