The dalmatian dog has become pretty famous ever since the release of the popular Walt Disney's animated film about a litter of dalmatian puppies who are abducted and it's up to the puppies parents to find them before they are used as a diabolical fashion statement. The movie, "101 Dalmatians" was first released in 1961 and produced by Walt Disney himself. The movie was based on the novel, "101 Dalmatians" written by author Dodre Smith. 102 Dalmatians is the latest dalmatians movie released in 2000. Cruella DeVil gets out of prison and goes after the adorable pups once again.
The dalmatian is amongst the most easily recognized dogs. Born completely white and gradually having dark spots throughout the entire body. The spots are more likely to appear black or brown but can appear a blue-grayish or even a dark to pale yellow color as well. The coat of this loyal dog is short, fine and dense. Although dalmatians tend to shed a whole lot, frequent grooming can help control the shedding. Shedding may be a problem but not doggy odors since this breed of dog requires minimal bathing.
Dalmatians grow 22 to 24 inches when mature and can weigh over 55 pounds. This breed needs plenty of exercise and outdoor daily activities such as running, walking etc. They have plenty of energy and can be very destructive and can start to display a wide range of behaviors if they cannot released this energy. But on the brighter side, they can make great play buddies with active children and adults. The life expectancy is 10 - 12 years.
