How to Train Beagles
- 31/10/2010
Every person I know simply falls in love with a Beagle when they come across one in their daily lives. Yes Beagles can be very cute with their lovable eyes and happy attitude. But they are not the easiest of dogs to train. If you want to train a Beagle in a proper manner then this is what you need to possess: you would need loads of patience to train a Beagle. In fact they are not as easy to train as the other dog breeds. Don't give up too easily when you set to train a Beagle. You need to show a large amount of commitment in training your Beagle.
A Beagle is basically a hunting dog and thus gets distracted without any effort, all set to run from one place to another for the smallest possible reason. You need to always convert the unlimited energy in your Beagle into a constructive form. Thus take it for long walks. Also don't forget to take it for a swim or a hike. This is very important because when a Beagle doesn't get any activity to utilize its energy, then it goes wild and causes a lot of unwanted indoor destruction. It can even keep on chewing or digging things. Always take your pet Beagle outside your house tied to a lease; this will help you avoid any unwanted chaos when you are at a public place.
Always assert yourself when you are with your pet Beagle. This is very important as a Beagle always responds much better to a person who's in total command of the situation. Don't wait till your Beagle grows very old to start its training. In fact if you wait to train it after it's grown very old, you will get only negligible results on its training. You can start your Beagle's training from the age of eight weeks itself. Start with all the basic commands like stand, sit, down, heel, etc. Once it is responding to all the basic commands, it shows that you are succeeding at your training attempt. You then need to go to the next level of training - continue with the commands which you have planned for your Beagle at the next stage.
If you have a property with a fence, get it fenced up so that the Beagle doesn't get lost while trying to roam away from your home. This will help you from preventing your pet from getting hurt in any possible way. Beagle is a pack animal - it always loves to be in a group. Thus they will always look forward to your company. Never try to keep a Beagle alone for long periods of time. This will make them grumpy and lethargic. It's also not good for their health as they tend to put on unwanted extra weight on their bodies. Since a Beagle has a sharp of sense, if it is trained well, it can be used for detection work of various kinds. Thus all your efforts spent on your Beagle will turn to be of great use.
