How to Train a Chow Chow Puppy - A Quick Guide to Training Your Chow Chow Dog

  • 01/11/2010

Chow Chows are very social and friendly dogs. They love being a part of a family and knowing their place. Although sometimes lazy, especially indoors, Chow Chows do need daily exercise and play. Chow Chows are good with children and enjoy the interaction. They do well in apartments and homes with small yards.

Along with their loving nature, they also possess an extremely stubborn streak. They can be difficult to train and absolutely must have a firm and confident master. Without steady training, they can become aggressive and unruly. The owner of a Chow Chow must have sufficient time to train it and be consistent in his efforts. Here are some easy tips to help you start your training.

Until an animal gives you his respect and assurance, you won't be able to have any success with your training efforts. These traits are exceptionally significant when training a dog. If a dog cannot distinguish a pack leader, then he accepts the position as leader.

In a dog's world, if you are the guide, then he will easily understand what you instruct him to do. Without building respect and loyalty first, all of your instruction efforts will almost certainly be unsuccessful. As you interrelate with your dog by becoming the alpha in your pack, he will effortlessly give you the respect and dependence that you deserve. As soon as the dog has learned to trust and respect the owner, he or she may be amazed at how quickly the teaching sessions progress.

Many new dog owners misinterpret adoration and affection for loyalty and respect. While a new puppy just begs to be held, make sure that you do not offer love to your puppy at an unfitting time. Often drawing a hard line between acceptable and improper behavior and enforcing it can be hard. By setting up patterns for your dog to go along with, you let him see what you expect of him.

Dogs build self-confidence by knowing the rules, and they develop loyalty when you implement the rules. In a natural setting each dog knows his position in the pack, and he understands what his job is.

Good luck training your new Chow Chow puppy!
