So You Decided on Getting a Beagle?

Hooray! You've finally decided on getting yourself the perfect little friend with cute little eyes and an energetic tail! After you began your research, the beagle probably stood out amongst the crowd. This amazingly social dog is has always been known as a mildly tempered, loving and intelligent dog. Buying a beagle is quite simple when it comes down to it. The best way to start your search is to interview possible breeders and pick the perfect puppy among the litters. Most people who actually take the time to do their homework know how important it can be because it's an animal that they'll keep with them for a long time, it's research is practically an investments. Thankfully, it's a lot easier than it might sound in the beginning.

A Good Breeder Means Healthy Beagle Puppies

The important thing about quality breeders is that they are able to provide healthy puppies that come with the perfect temperament for that breed. These breeders do this because it's a source of income for them. Often times, the dogs are part of the breeder's family and they receive just as much care as any other member of the family would. Most breeders will keep a thorough history and account the adults issues so that you know what to look for in the puppies. Typically speaking, breeders wait until the female dog is somewhere around two years old before they begin to breed her. They allow typically eighteen months between each litter. They also rarely breed them more than four or five times overall. In contrast, puppy mills are systems that breed often and for as long as its feasible. These types of breeders don't produce the best dogs and are just in it for the money.

Professional breeders have to be extremely aware of health issues of their dogs. They should and typically do provide you with a health certificate for the dogs and will be comfortable discussing any issues the breeds typically face and how they have tried to minimize those problems. Every breed, just like humans, are prone to certain diseases. As a buyer, you should ask the breeders how they've tried to prevent illness.

Beagles Need Socialization

Beagles have been used since around the 14th century as a way to hunt game. Even from the beginning of their breed, they were used to human contact. It's quite important for these dogs to be loved and have human interaction from birth so they can develop socially. Many breeders can give you advise and the dogs early training so they can be better prepared for the road ahead.

Picking the Right Puppy

Lastly, you can now go out and look through the litter to find the one you want. It's important to pay attention to how the litter reacts to your entrance and how these puppies interact with one another. If the puppies mostly run away, they probably lack the proper amount of social development needed. A beagle puppy should ideally treat most strangers with a degree of trust and curiosity. Puppies typically tug on the pants and play with shoelaces and even run around your feet. Usually, they will lose interest in you after a few minutes and continue playing amongst themselves.

Most people seem to prefer middle personality dogs. The leader of the pack might be a bit more demanding and harder to take of, while the softer dogs might not be exactly the energy you are looking for. Getting the mild temperament dogs will give you the best amount of joy with the least amount of maintenance. Before you choose which dog to go with, you should pick up and play with each dog. This might change their personalities and might not be exactly what you want.

Buying a beagle is quite easy if you give it some thought. It's really important you find the right breeder so you get the happiest and healthiest puppy that will give you the best memories ever!
