Havanese Rescue is Good For the Soul

  • 20/11/2010

Every year many organizations in the United States concern themselves with Havanese rescue. When you get involved in saving a little dog from an abusive situation, or when you give an abandoned animal a home, you not only get a new best friend but you get that feeling of doing something wonderful for an innocent little animal. There are many organizations you can reach out to if you want to help rescue a Havanese dog or if you want to volunteer your time.

If you do find yourself adopting one of these cute little dogs you will notice that there is a period where your dog will not only have to get used to its new surroundings but it will also have to get used to being loved and cared for. Some dogs take a little longer than others to adjust but be patient and, most importantly be a loving owner.

Everyone likes to feel welcomed in their own home and you can help your new Havanese feel at home right away by making sure they have their own living area. Part of the Havanese rescue process is to make sure that the Havanese knows it is welcome in its new home and you can do that by providing a bed, food dish, and water dish in an area where the dog can easily find it but also where it can get some privacy.

If you own other animals then you may want to give the Havanese a little time to itself in a large open room somewhere before exposing it to the other animals in the house. A popular way of doing this is to make sure you have the Havanese in the room where it can be closed in with a door but there is a small opening between the door and the floor. This way all of the animals will have a few days to sense each other in the house before they meet face to face.

The most important thing with your Havanese rescue dog is to show it a lot of love and attention and let it know that it is welcome in your home and it is safe. One way to help that is daily grooming of your Havanese. The Havanese requires daily brushing and grooming to maintain a healthy coat and this is the perfect chance to show your Havanese that it is safe and loved in your home. Find some toys for your Havanese and set aside time each day to play with your new dog. Positive interaction is very important.

For more Havanese information you should scout the Internet for sites that can offer you advice and care instructions for your new Havanese. Remember that you have a dog that may not understand what it means to be loved as it has probably been neglected most of its life, so do the right things and be patient.
