Grooming Methods for German Shepherds

  • 12/12/2011

To keep your puppy clean and healthy, grooming is significant. Skin problems can be averted by keeping your German shepherd's coat clean. Like people, puppies usually develop skin problems if not groomed right.

There are many others who tend to think that dog grooming involves just giving a bath once a week or month. Grooming entails not just giving a shower frequently but also brushing the coat, cleaning the ear wax, cutting their hair and clipping nails.

A German shepherd is a playful dog, so grooming him may be a feat. But it's worthwhile for the reason that they can stay away from skin allergic reactions. You want to avoid bald spots and rashes.

German shepherd grooming is actually quite trouble-free if you follow the correct procedure. Your puppy will shed his coat at some point and you may want to clean him more during that time. Get taught or have a specialist do it.

Use a metallic rake to discard tangles or knotted hair. Chest, neck and thigh spots often tangle so focus on these areas.

Twice a week brushing of the hair can help your pet keep clean. Choose a brush that feels right in your hand and is firm enough.

Use tepid water for bathing your German shepherd. Shampoo brand is also significant and you must use one that your pet likes. It's best if the ingredients are all-natural. Test a few to see which one your dog is OK with.

The shampoo should be massaged all over the coat and it would be best to leave it for some time. This might help in dissolving the dust and oils that accumulate on the coat and make it dirty. You must then rinse the shampoo properly so that all the filth is washed away. High velocity dryer is ideal for removing surplus water.

Regular trimming of the hair is also imperative so that it doesn't grow so long. This way, you can steer clear of dirt accumulation. Dog grooming also includes cutting the fingernails at frequent intervals. This can help prevent split and broken nails. If the nails are left unattended it will grow very long and dirty.

You must also remember to check the teeth of your dog no less than once every month to help detect any teeth and gum issues. When you use these simple grooming procedures you'll manage to keep your dog well groomed, fit and happy.
