- 20/11/2010
Are you looking for a puppy for sale for your family? Perhaps you are looking on the internet for an older dog for sale? There are an enormous number of dog breeds out there, but have you considered the greyhound? The humble greyhound can make a terrific pet for a number of different reasons. The following article will discuss the greyhound and why it is such a great breed of dog.
The first misconception about greyhounds is that they are vicious as they have to wear a muzzle. This however could not be further from the truth. Greyhounds are calm and affectionate dogs that are great around children and in a family setting. The muzzle is required due to an outdated law. Since greyhounds were bred for racing, there vision and running instinct is high especially when seeing something like a rabbit. Because of this the muzzle law was introduced, but it would be extremely rare for a greyhound to bite or show any aggression to a human.
Another misconception about greyhounds is that they need a lot of exercise. Once again, this could not be further from the truth. Greyhounds tire very easily and are more than happy with a short stroll around the block just once a day. Greyhounds are actually notorious for being couch potatoes and it can often be hard to get the dog off your couch once it is cuddled up and comfy.
So do you want to know where you can find a greyhound for sale? Firstly you can check the internet and newspapers for breeders. Another option is to look into adopting an ex racing greyhound from a group. Many groups have been set up to re-home retired racing greyhounds as they used to be destroyed after their racing days were over. Nowadays many retired racing greyhounds are tested for their suitability to be put in a home and are trained with basic toilet training, basic commands and are generally trained so they can enter a home situation.
In summary, greyhounds can make a great pet for you and your family. They have low energy needs and are also easy to care for. They are calm dogs that are easy to groom, good with other pets and great around people. If you want a new dog, consider a greyhound and you won't regret it.
