German Shepherd - Some Things To Considering When Educating

  • 23/11/2010

When talking about this breed, we must consider that we are dealing with world's number one, in terms of ability to be trained, so if you want a less active breed, the choice is totally wrong.

Even if the German shepherd is not always first in dressage competitions of any nature, one thing is certain, they could be. A young German shepherd who comes from properly selected parents will have a balanced behavior and will easily promote exams, whether it comes from a line of "beauty" or a line of work. Therefore, when choosing a German shepherd, we should think that we chased to be a professionals trainer and it is not just a companion dog, it would be the equivalent of driving a Ferrari at 50 km / h.

Training should begin with patience, without haste, because. Who is in a hurry will always get average results. Due to the anatomical conformation radically different from other breeds, physical force is totally contraindicated to a young German shepherd until they reach the age of one year, when the skeleton is largely composed.

This does not mean that training should be started after one year, but only as the German shepherd puppy to be trained to measure, not to travel long distances without jumping too high fences in childhood. After growing, the fragile baby will become a powerful athlete, able to walk into a trap of endless distances or easily jump a fence of 2.5 meters high.

We must remember that the German shepherd is not the best, took on parts from any of the contest but it is incomparable when we think about adding all his abilities. In other words, maintenance of the character of this breed is complete dog training. Although originally only been used as a herding dog, use of race began to diversify, German shepherd currently are successfully used for works like the police in rescue, the mountain rescue station, a guide for the blind or drug detector.

Before starting the real training is essential to understand the role of stimuli (food or moving object), without which a result is impossible. Even if the first stimulus "food" seems to be more efficient for a puppy because it works more like digestive tube during the growing, the need for play comes when it starts growing. Passion for the ball is also the first step made for acquiring commands such as "aport".

Although in development period German shepherd may seem weak, due to a very dark anatomical conformation, with the maturity, he is a true champion of the utility and he shows good results in all dog sports.
