Essential Facts To Understand When It Comes To The Boston Terrier
- 25/03/2013
The Boston Terrier (also called the "American Gentleman") is a non-sporting breed. They feature a brindle, seal or black coat with white markings. The breed is assumed to have first originated during the 1800s and acting as a show dog is what they were initially used for. They are now a more common choice as a companion breed for families or allergy sufferers in the modern day. Qualities such as their playful and well-mannered temperament are things they are famous for. They're known to have been developed in Boston and are a descendant of English Terriers, the Bulldog and French Bulldog.
They are identified as a small sized dog. The official male and female dimensions are 15-17 inches high with a weight of 15-25 pounds. They are famous for their friendly, gentle and well-mannered manner. They are unsuitable as a guard dog, as they are typically reserved (but quickly become friendly) towards strangers. In comparison to every other breed, they are known to be fairly clever, and score 54th when being taught new obedience instructions.
They are great towards children, and that can mean they are suitable as a family pet. They do get along peacefully with other pets like other dogs and pets. One simple task is grooming them. They demand full grooming every month or two, and occasional brushing once every week or so. They can very easily be suited to living in an apartment, but like having a small yard (though don't really need one) to run around in.
They are largely longer-lived, as is the case with a good number of small sized breeds, with a life expectancy of 10-14 years. Their most common health problem is cataracts or other eye problems, and they're also susceptible to deafness, breathing difficulties, sensitivity to hot and cold or allergies. Hobbies like play sessions or indoor games of fetch will keep them entertained. They require long walks every day to avoid the development of bad behavior owing to their moderate to high degree of energy.
You should be ready to give them plenty of exercise and attention if you choose the Boston Terrier. They are not the best option for a guard dog, but perfect for active owners, apartment dwellers or families. Possibly the main reason dog lovers find this dog particularly appealing is that it is one of the best companion dogs due to its amazingly gentle nature. People also love them seeing as they can be a great choice for dog allergies due to their hypoallergenic coat.
