English Bulldogs - Although Often Misunderstood, Bulldogs Make the Most Wonderful Pets You Can Have

  • 16/08/2012

Did you ever notice that people tend to have pets whose personalities match their own?

Oh, I'm not talking about those people who have birds, fish, or reptiles for pets. (Though an argument could be made for SOME snake owners!) No, I am talking about dog owners.

Those of us who have dogs for pets are as varied in personality, lifestyle, grooming, and eating habits as the many breeds of dogs from which we have to choose. Paying attention to the pet choices made by our family and friends can be very interesting and informative!

For the most part dogs are loyal, faithful, loving, friendly and outgoing. If you have a relative that has NONE of these characteristics they are probably a cat owner (or maybe one of those snake owners I mentioned earlier!).

I will use some members of my own family as examples of to what I am referring.

My dad: When I was a kid, we usually had a dog. The breed didn't matter to dad, because it was never HIS dog. Therefore I can remember a Chinese chow, a German Shepherd, a Collie, and various 'mutts' of indeterminate breed. With only one exception all our dogs were 'sent to doggie heaven' by my dad, usually violently and always well before their time... My dad should probably have been a snake owner.

My daughter: My daughter is definitely a dog lover. She breeds English bulldogs. Bulldogs have broad chests, are low to the ground, with large heads. (No, the physical description of the English bulldog does NOT match my daughter's physical description. She is very lovely, thank you.) The bulldog is very active and playful when they're young and then slow down when they are older. This pretty much can be said about all of us!

But bulldogs are also loyal, known for their courage and is very gentle with children. this describes my daughter perfectly! She is a very strong young woman and the best mother I have ever seen.

Bulldogs also tend to drool and can be messy eaters. Again, this describes my daughter perfectly! (when she was two, that child drooled constantly!)

Take a look at your family and you will see that I am right. I hope that you enjoyed my article and you will consider taking in a English Bulldog as a pet. They are such wonderful animals. Thank you for taking the time to read this article.
