General Appearance

Strong, powerful, muscular, robust and lean.

Characteristics

Attentive with jaunty bearing.

Temperament

Docile and gentle.

Head and Skull

Long, angular; occiput pronounced. Well developed zygomatic arch. Slight stop. Nose flesh-coloured or chestnut. Wide nostrils.

Eyes

Oval, neither deep set nor protruding. Shades of amber. Intelligent, attentive expression.

Ears

Well developed, supple, slightly rounded tip. Set rather forward, slightly higher than eye level, carried close to cheek. Leathers extend to end of muzzle.

Mouth

Jaws strong, with perfect, regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws.

Neck

Short in proportion to body. Powerful. Slight dewlap.

Forequarters

Shoulders long, sloping, muscular and well laid back. Forelegs straight, firm, held close to chest; elbows well tucked in.

Body

Well sprung ribs, good depth of brisket. Back strong.

Hindquarters

Long, well muscled. Hocks well let down.

Feet

Sturdy, oval feet. Slightly extended toes, covered in fine, short hair. Single dew claws preferred, double accepted.

Tail

Medium length, strong at base, slightly tapered. Carried below horizontal at rest; slightly raised when dog is moving.

Gait/Movement

Strong, smooth and driving. Parallel movement fore and aft; no hackney action.

Coat

Fine, dense, short and glossy.

Colour

Orange and white, orange roan, chestnut and white or chestnut roan.

Size

Height at withers: 55-67 cms (21½-26½ ins).
