Bloodhound Grooming at Home

  • 31/10/2010

Pet grooming is often either neglected or your dog is taken to a professional for the full treatment! Neglecting a pet's grooming needs is not in its or your best interests as the dog is at risk of various related maladies, and are generally more pleasant to be around when groomed. The bloodhound doesn't require a lot of grooming as it is a medium shedder but it does need maintenance of its daily cleanliness and to be kept dry.

Finding a professional willing and able to do the regular grooming can be an ideal solution particularly for large dogs such as a bloodhound. Despite that having them groomed by others can be easier and time saving, most of the essential grooming tasks are daily ones so unless your groomer is a part of the family then some of the grooming care may need to be yours.

An outdoor bloodhound can probably do without that part of the grooming which is aimed at systematically controlling their smell, and bathing can be as required, but looking after their teeth and ears, daily, is important for their health. Indoor dogs may require more frequent baths.

Introducing and performing grooming tasks from a young age will get the pup used to the procedure and can be a wonderful bonding process.
