The Hidden Benefits Of Owning A Dog

Fluffy, playful, full of love and devotion ... what’s not to love about dogs? Very little, apart from those early morning scoop-a-poop jobs. But did you know that dogs are probably giving you a lot more than you initially thought? From helping us feel happier to making sure we’re fit and healthy, our canine friends are looking after us to ensure our relationships really are two-sided.
Good for the Kids
Your child may just be happy that they have someone to play with, but your dog is giving them more than just hours of entertainment. Having a dog in the home means your child is less likely to develop allergies, for one. They will also develop crucial life skills, such as responsibility for looking after someone other than themselves. More crucially, having a pet can help ease the symptoms of your child’s ADHD, PTSD, and other issues.
Good For Your Health
If you own a dog, you’ll be improving your health - both mentally and physically. It can be difficult to motivate yourself to get out the house and get some exercise on some days, but when you have an eager dog hopefully walking you to the door to go outside, it’s all the more easier. The thirty minute to an hour walk you take them on each day is tiring them out and giving you a fun way to exercise at the same time. It beats sitting on the couch! Dog ownership has also been shown to relieve depression and make us feel happier. Having a companion, taking care of something else, and that all important bond of love is enough to make us feel all warm and happy inside - aww!
Good For Social Life
It’s hard to meet new friends, but not when you have a dog in your life! Everybody loves a dog, and you’ll find you have more interactions on a daily basis with your dog than without. And those enquiring neighbours, friendly passersby on your walks, and other dog owners are all potential friends!
