A Fear of Dogs

  • 01/02/2011

Many children and adults have cynophobia. The fear of dogs is a natural emotion, but for some people this fear can become abnormal and turn into phobia. Some people are scared to go near or even touch this pet. This may happen because a person probably had a bad experience in early childhood or was taught that all dogs are bad and dangerous.

Many children are afraid just by seeing a dog because some may look aggressive and ferocious in appearance. If we spent a lot of time with dogs during our early life we are most likely going to not be afraid of every dog we see. Just as humans can be afraid of dogs some dogs can be afraid of humans also. If a dog is unfamiliar to you, try not to come close to him because he might think that you will try to harm or torture him. Small children should not come close to unfamiliar pets. They don't know difference between a live and a soft toy dog and might try to grab which can make a dog mad and irritated. If you are afraid then do not try to run away because most dogs like to play around and chase.

Move slowly and look straight into the eyes of the pet. Overcoming a fear of dogs can be hard, especially if we have been afraid our whole lives. The first question we should ask our selves is why are we afraid. Is there really any reason why should we be afraid. There are many books and instructions out there on how to overcome fear of dogs. It might not be easy but in the end it will pay off and then you will be able to walk past any dog and not even think about it.
