When you decide to get a new dog for your home, your work is only just beginning! The decision is the easy part because it is then that the process of choosing the right dog breed for you and your family truly starts! Research is a must beforehand because there are several questions you must ask in order to get an idea of the best possible dog breeds for you and your family.

Some of the questions that you may want to ask when choosing the right dog breed for you and your family are as follows:

How easy is it to housetrain a particular breed? – If you have children, then it is perhaps better to have a breed that is relatively easy to housetrain. The possibilities for infection are endless with children present so it would be necessary to quickly train a dog. Choosing the right dog breed for you and your family is especially important in this way!

What is the cost of feeding and housing the breed? – This is a question that most individuals do not think of when choosing the right dog breed for you and your family, purely and simply because they are often concerned with the dog’s personality and nature and whether they can afford a breed or not would not come into question. However, there is a massive difference between the cost of keeping a Great Dane and the cost of keeping a Chihuahua! Food is expensive, and so is keeping a larger dog!

Does the breed have a good or bad reputation? – Whilst this would not matter in an older household, in a household with children it does. If a dog breed has a bad reputation, especially with children, then it would be prudent to avoid them when choosing the right dog breed for you and your family. However, those breeds with good reputations are worth considering!

Of course, there are many other questions that you should ask when choosing the right dog breed for you and your family, but think outside the box! These are not obvious questions, but you do need to cover all angles to be sure of the breed that you want!
