The Importance Of Effective Dog Socialization

  • 26/01/2014

Almost all of your canine's behavioral habits are formed at the beginning from birth into one year of it's age.

If you bring your new puppy for the first time at your home, It is necessary you get it accustomed to a variety of sounds and places.

Then slowly introduce your new canine to the things in your own home or household.

When your puppy growls, barks at any person or other animals, do not ever pick it up or cuddle it.

The reaction will be very rewarding to your new puppy and will intensify it's own behavior.

It will teach your dog that the proper reaction to fear is to growl. Which need not to be so and this growling may lead to biting. But rather the canine must be corrected and like the mother dog will do to her own puppy must be firm, stern, consistent and confident. Dog socialization is really needed at this time.

You must tell your canine 'No' and show him the object and let it realize that there is nothing to be afraid of. You need to give your canine a touch at the head that will match its own intensity (mocking the mother dog)

Puppies like to always play. They will chew on anything and everything and will chew your slippers and with the good playful growl. Do not ever confuse that behavior with the growl of fear defensively.

What are the best techniques to provide quality dog socialization?

  1. Take your canine out often. You must show your canine all kinds of people, places, sounds, other dogs and other animals also. Or you can bring him into the dog park if there is one in your place. Dogs must be taken in or a pack walk before you can get it to the dog park so that you get it into a more sociable conditions. But be very careful when your dog is being introduced with other dogs and animals. It is also important that you know your dog's breed different traits, then use your best judgment for the situation. But always correct your dog if he shows some signs of domination or aggression towards a person or animals. Do not laugh off at it and consider it as cute.
  2. You must take your puppy into the dog clinic to have it's dog socialization training if you cannot do it yourself. Your canine will get his needed training over at these dog's clinics and will be able to learn and know how to be with other animals and other people as well.
  3. When there is a baby at the house,, carefully let your canine smell the baby from some distance, then let the canine stay some distance away from the baby. You must teach your child to respect your dog, as well as teach your canine to respect your baby. This kind of dog socialization enables both parties to get really acquainted with each other and thus become friendly to each other. Do not let your canine growl at anyone or anything.
