The Behaviour Of A Breeding Dog
- 26/02/2020
Did your dog have puppies? Well, don't expect it to remain the same sweet dog as always. The behaviour of a breeding dog changes dramatically because it now has another priority. Find out now to know how to act and what to avoid.
Pregnancy and puppies can make your dog look annoying and have unpredictable behaviours. This stage lasts about two months or until the little ones become more independent. Meanwhile, you must be careful to treat your dog as she deserves in this delicate stage of her life.
Behaviours of a bitch during pregnancy
Pregnancy may be normal for your dog in terms of behaviour, but it will certainly change a few days before giving birth. You will see that she may be a little nervous and react badly when someone approaches. So that your dog is calm make sure you have a large and comfortable box so she can give birth to her puppies, in a serene area of your home, away from children, which can cause you a lot of stress.
Behaviours once the pups are born
Your dog will likely let you manipulate her puppies if you have always had a very close relationship with her, but do not be distressed if it is not. It is time to respect her. Besides, she can take good care of her puppies.
On this subject, you must know that you are going to see her take her puppies with her mouth to move them from one side to another. Quiet, it is normal and does not hurt them.
As for the other people in the house and other animals, it is best to be away from the bitch and her babies. A canine mother can be aggressive with other animals, with children in the house and with strangers at this stage. It is still good advice to keep mom and her puppies in a quiet place in the house.
Rarely will the mother leave her children, she will only do so at the time of eating or going to the bathroom. One behaviour that you may appreciate is that you can see the carpet in the corners of the house or dig the garden. That is because she is looking for a safe place to hide his children, which is an indication that she feels they are in danger and you should move his box to a more intimate place.
Another behaviour of a breeding dog, especially when its babies are very small, is that she eats the depositions of its puppies. Once again, you should not worry, because she does it by the instinct of protection, with the desire to hide the smell of her puppies before possible predators.
