Start Grooming Your Dog At A Young Age
- 08/10/2011
There are many reasons to keep your dog groomed regularly. The main reason being your dog's health. That is the fundamental idea of dog grooming and why we do it, but in addition to just their overall health, grooming also serves as a way to keep your dog's coat clean and also ensure that their eyes, ears, nose, and teeth are all as they should be.
All dogs have one thing in common: their hair. They have 2 coats. Their outer coat is a thicker, more coarse coat while the inner coat, which is closest to their skin, is softer and more fine. Because of genetics, a dog's hair length is predetermined and once it hits a certain length, it will fall out and shed. This process of shedding happens when new hair begins to grow in, pushing the old hair out. Normally this process happens in the spring so that a dog can begin to grow a new, thicker coat for the winter.
It is best to start grooming your dog from a young age. This helps because it gets them used to the idea of what grooming feels like and so that they become comfortable with the process. As is customary, learning anything from a younger age helps the dog to continue that habit for the rest of their life. For whatever reason, dogs either loved to be groomed or hate to be groomed. If you familiarise a puppy with the grooming process, he is more likely to not be scared of the idea when it happens. It is usually best to groom or pretend to groom your puppy for at least a solid month after bringing him into your home.
Teeth, ears and paws should all be checked during each grooming session. Dogs' ears can be prone to infection so do not overlook all body parts. To clean a dog's ears, simply pour in a little cleaner, massage the ears, then let the dog shake any of the gunk out. Make sure to thoroughly dry the dog's ears out after the cleaning. Toenails should be cut about every 2 months, unless the dog gets enough exercise to wear down his nails naturally. When clipping toenails, you will want to make sure you only clip a little at a time. You don't want to get too closer to the cuticle and inadvertently draw blood. This will cause the dog pain. Caring for dog's teeth is generally pretty easy. There are many chew toys, food, and cleansers that are made so that the dog's teeth are getting cleaned while eating or chewing on these.
If you are looking for a Aurora Dog Groomer, there are many great places to choose from. I would recommend checking out the dog groomers at Club Pet Resorts.
