Simple Steps To Enjoying Sports With Your Dog
- 09/01/2020
Try a Few Different Sports Together
If you haven’t tried playing a sport with your dog then today is the perfect day to give it a try. Most pooches love running around, chasing a ball or else burning off some energy in other ways. This secret is in finding the right sport for both of you.
It is a good idea to first of all think of what sport you want to try. If it is football then this is pretty easy. Lionel Messi has shown us how much fun it can be to play around with a ball and a dog. Most dogs will happily chase the ball for hours on end.
What if you want to go running or cycling? Maybe your dog will happy to run alongside you. Just remember that he will need to stop for water breaks more than you do. However, it is a terrific feeling to get out and get some exercise together in this way.
The majority of pooches also love to jump up and grab the ball. With a bit of thought you could get them to play American football or even volleyball with you. Some of the rules might need to be tweaked for his benefit but it will still be a lot of fun.
Watch Games Together
Sitting down to watch a big game with your best furry friend can be hugely enjoyable. If he is a peaceful sort of dog then he will be happy to lay down next to you as you watch the action.
More excitable pooches will start to bark and jump about when you get excited because of the action. Either way, it is a great feeling to spend some time together while your favourite sport is on the TV.
You can even buy doggie clothes in the colours of your favourite team. Whether you watch the Champions League, the NFL or even if you are betting on the Kentucky Derby horse race, there are plenty of hats, scarves and other stuff you can get for him online.
Naturally, you can’t take your four legged friend to the stadium with you. However, this may change in the future. A dog park initiative from the Jacksonville Jaguars in Florida allows fans and their pets to enjoy the match-day experience in style.
Go to Organised Classes
So far, we have looked at adapting human sports to include your pooch in them. A different approach is to learn the different doggie sports that you could play with them.
The best way to learn them is to take him to some organised classes. There, he can learn the likes of agility games, rallies and obedience exercises. Flyball is another fantastic canine sport that most of them love.
Look for a sport that he enjoys and that you can take part in as well. It is then a question of finding time for it whenever you can. The more often that you play together, the better it will be for both of you.
There are a number of benefits to be found in playing sports with your dog. These include the fact that it will keep you both of you fit and active, help you to bond more and probably leave you feeling happy and relaxed afterwards. There are definitely more than enough reasons to give this a try.
