Qualities Of Good Dog Harnesses
- 18/06/2013
You love your dog and you are doing your best to provide them with the care they deserve. You want them to eat good food and to look good, of course. With the effort of trying to make your pup look good and stay safe, you try to check out dog collars or harnesses. Then this certain question pops out on your mind, "What kind of harness or collar is fit for my precious pup?"
Collars are the most popular accessories for dog walking, but apart from dog collars there are also what you call dog harnesses. Dog harnesses are basically used to secure canines in a similar way that a dog collar would. They are simple, yet effective accessory to use with dogs. Collars are used around the neck while harnesses are usually used around the dog's body which causes an even distribution of pressure and this will help protect the fragile parts of your dog's body. Harnesses are really good for highly energetic dogs since these kinds of dogs usually choke themselves with their dog collars. Choking can sometimes lead to severe problems such as vomiting, gagging or breathing problems. Using dog harnesses will take away the choking problem because the harness is used around the dog's torso and not around their neck. Also, hyperactive dogs tend to get free with collars but with dog harnesses, they can not get away easily. It will take a lot of effort for a dog to get away from its harness.
Dog harnesses are available in various kinds. There are harnesses made of cotton, leather as well as those traditional thin ones. There are also harnesses that come in larger sizes. Those are the ones used to wrap around the body, like a vest. Many dog owners prefer vest harnesses since there is no pressure on the dog's neck. These kinds of harnesses have a D-Ring in the back where you get to hook the leash. Since they are bigger, it requires more material and that is why there are a lot of opportunities for harness makers to design them. There's also the kind of harness which they call the "easy-on harness". The name explains everything. Easy-on harnesses are so easy for everyone to use. They have a hook and loop or what they call Velcro attached to them that make it a lot easier for dog owners to strap their dogs. They're still very useful and can be quite comfortable for your dog if you prefer to get that instead of a collar.
So what qualities of dog harnesses do you have to look for?
1. Durability
- Of course you have to look for dog harnesses that are worth each penny you spend. You have to make sure it is made with good quality material and a nice design as well.
2. Comfort
- You bought the dog harness for your well-loved dog right? So you better make sure your pooch will feel comfortable with it. Search the rack for soft fabrics such as a fine mesh, nylon or suede.
3. Machine Washable
- You do not want your pup to wear something dirty, do you? Look for harnesses that can be washed easily.
Dog harnesses can be found in any pet store. You can even find a lot of designs online. Just remember those three qualities you have to consider and you're good to go.
