Picking The Right Dog Kennel For Travelling

  • 05/10/2013

I guess when your shopping around for the right kennel, there are so many variations depending on the dogs size, how long they will be in it, and where your going to place it in the vehicle. If you have a fairly large dog you want the kennel to be big enough but not overly, what I mean is they need room but they also like to cuddle up. When they do that (cuddle up) it keeps them warmer if they should happen to be in a cold climate. If your doing to keep the kennel in the back of your pickup you should try and get a kennel that is somewhat inclosed not just a wire one for there comfort and warmth. If you keep them in the care your probably going to use a carrier with a handle so it makes it easier to transport from vehicle to outside of the vehicle.

There are so many kinds on the market today you can pick and choose according to size and also structure, the wire ones, the plastic ones, the totally enclosed ones, with just some slits on the sides. We have also invested in a cover for our kennel which I mentioned keeps them warmer in cold climates, and our especially good for hunting dogs. The best advantage to that is you can have a pickup that doesn't have a topper and they still can be transported in there without freezing and being able to with stand the elements of all kinds of weather including rain.

Keeping in mind you also want to choose one that's built to last and that will be safe and the right size for your dog. We have had several kinds but my favorite is the one that has a few slits on the sides so they can see out and still be out of the weather, and our not made of any kind of steel or wire, I think they can be a issue on safety for your best friend, so many times they can get restless being in there just like your out door kennels expect for the fact there in a much more confined area, another good thing to make things even more comfortable is to put a carpet mat or pillow in the kennel so they won't be so nervous or bored depending on how long you keep them locked up.
