It’s no secret that dogs love our food. The minute you start to cook, who appears at your side but your beloved pooch? Some of our foods are okay, healthy even when given to a dog. But remember everything in moderation. Even something that promotes their health should not necessarily be given every day.

And then there are some of our foods that should NEVER be given to a dog, as they can result in severe illness or even death. Here is a reliable list of foods that can be given to your canine and some that should never be offered:

1. Can dogs eat radishes?

Yes! Radishes and carrots are an acceptable snack for your dog. Many dogs love foods that crunch like radishes, but some do not care for the taste. If your dog rejects them, you may want to try something a little more neutral like carrots or even watermelon. They will get the crunch with a milder flavour.

2. Can dogs eat peanut butter?

Yes! Peanut butter is a great way to incorporate human food into your dog’s diet, especially if you need to coax them into taking medicine or a pill. Peanut butter seems to be one of those universal foods that dogs cannot get enough of, so it would be cruel if they shouldn’t eat it. Thankfully, this is not the case.

3. Can dogs eat eggs?

Yes! Like humans, raw eggs can create health problems for your dog, so just make sure the egg is fully cooked before serving it to them. Some of their favourite ways seem to be either scrambled or hard-boiled. The stinkier, the better!

4. Can dogs eat salmon?

Yes! Fish, in general, is a great source of protein for dogs and can provide many health benefits. However, like eggs, it is important to ensure that the fish you serve to your pet is fully cooked. In addition to salmon, dogs can also eat herring, flounder, and whitefish. Common fish seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic, and butter aren’t healthy for dogs, so be sure to leave your furry friend’s portion unseasoned.

5. Can dogs eat grapes?

NO. Grapes and raisins alike are highly toxic to dogs. Grape poisoning is a serious threat to dogs, and if you ever suspect that your pet has ingested grapes of any kind, it is important to call for help right away. This ailment can occur in any breed of dog across the board.

6. Can dogs eat chocolate?

NO. You’ve probably heard this before, but just to confirm, no it is not an old wives tale. Chocolate contains an ingredient that is highly toxic to dogs and even a small amount can make them incredibly sick with stomach problems. Dark chocolate is especially bad, so make sure to avoid leaving out any food product that contains it.

Conclusion

In general, a good rule of thumb is to distribute any kind of food in small amounts. Even foods that will not harm your dog like ham or meat should not be given in large amounts due to the high amount of fat in them. When it comes to dairy products, your dog may be able to eat them, but like humans, many dogs do in fact have lactose intolerance.

If you are ever curious as to what foods your dog may be able to have, you can always ask your pup’s vet for more specific details. However, as a rule, it is always wise to keep the human food in absolute moderation and only as a special treat rather than regularly incorporated into their meals.
