How Dog Socialization Can Help a Problematic Dog

  • 25/01/2014

The breed of dogs is widely known to have different behavior or attitude and this is due to their strong genetic characteristics of their breed. Like for example the sheepdogs that guard and lead sheep are born with the capability to herd or guard livestock and the gundogs that have the natural acceptance of being able to take some loud noise like the gun shots. But other dogs cannot do these things and it really depends upon the breed of the dogs. Some dogs are hard to train for their dog socialization but others are easily trained to be friendly. However, if you will allow your dog to be trained at the dog training schools or clinics it will be possible.

Critical Period

The most critical time of canine socialization is the time when a particular pattern or set of behavior must be presented or performed to the developing canine (the puppy) in order that such behavior will be manifested in the dog when it will get older. Its inability to do or initiate such behavior training at the critical period may result in the distortion of some hereditary behavior into that particular breed of canine. The critical period of dogs varies and is not the same for all different breed of dogs. But in general its critical time for their socialization is between 2 weeks into 16 weeks. And if the canine is not properly socialized in the right manner that particular dog will never have the appropriate behavior in the future.
Imprinting properly

The significant factor of the critical period of the dog socialization is known as imprinting. This is the method wherein a young dog or animal gets the self identity as the specie or imprinting is the process in which the socialization period when such puppy will associate itself along the particular breed. Usually the dog or animal will surely associate itself with its own particular breed or species. But there are a few cases wherein the dog will have to get the characteristics of another breed or specie which are only rare. There are also cases wherein the manipulated or artificial characteristics flourish over the domesticated dogs or animals.

Imprinting Manipulated in Dogs

That only means that if you left a puppy at the sheep fold it will eat and stay within the fold of many sheep that it will be like the sheep over the period of time. After some time the canine that sleeps, eats and plays with the sheep will associate itself with the sheep and not as canine or as people too. This means that contact and dog socialization with other animals will certainly play a very important role in molding the behavior of that particular canine. So it is best if your canine has some dog to play and live with, in your house. Dogs will always love to have some dogs as their playmates and loves to have their owners too. And this must be the case with your canine to be properly socialized.
