Dogs have been part of humans’ lives for a long time. They are adorable creatures that keep our homes safe and our hearts filled with love. Most dogs spend their lives in the same home with their owner. Like children, they observe their owner’s behaviour, and sometimes, successfully model their intrinsic character.

Dog & Owner Personality Types

Sarah Olevdor, CEO at aussiewritings.com and professional dog trainer, shares her opinion. “A friendly attitude in an owner will develop a friendly attitude in a dog, while a grumpy owner might raise a grumpy dog. Dogs’ personality traits are similar to ours, and thus, develop according to the environment they are raised in. That’s why we could say that understanding a human’s behaviour by considering his or her dog’s personality traits are seen as valid.”

Research shows that there are multiple “dog personality types.” By analyzing their behaviour and responses to external stimuli, the categories are as follows:

The Born Leader.

This type of dog’s behaviour is natural, yet imposing. Other dogs might avoid him, or respect him a lot. A born leader-dog always take care of his family, and is confident in his actions, even if the owner did not approve of them. Some disadvantages could be aggression towards other dogs or excessive self-confidence, which could be damaging to the owner.
