Entertaining Backyard: Games To Play With Your Dog
- 22/10/2020
For various reasons, including health reasons, playing with your dog is paramount for the development of your pet. Games enhance the physical and mental development of your dog. Thus, being able to play with him a few times ensures that he’s growing.
Your backyard offers the dog space and plenty of sunshine, but it needs more than that. Your dog needs a companion, someone to cheer him, someone to stretch his muscles, and here’s how you can spend a wonderful time with your dog in the backyard.
Playing chase.
This game involves running after your dog, and they love the idea of chasing after balls. Have a ball, maybe a tennis ball or a football, in the backyard. Throw the ball and let the dog chase after the ball as you chase after your dog. You two will go in circles for some time, and this will give our dog a much-needed exercise.
Go and fetch.
It’s a standard backyard game but one that can entertain both you and your dog. Throwing a toy for your dog to retrieve strengthens the bond between you and your pet. Some dogs are good at fetching, and others need a bit of training.
To train your dog how to fetch, smear some butter or cheese on your dog’s favorite toy. Award your dog for every pick he will make, but as time goes by, give an award only for when he picks the toy and brings it back.
Water games are fun.
Dogs love playing with what, and summer is just about the time to have some cool time with your dog in the backyard. During the warm and sunny days, turn on the sprinkler, splash some water on your dog, and watch him jump with excitement. Also, you can throw some toys in a large bucket and encourage your dog to try and catch some toys.
Improving agility.
Agility games significantly improve your dog’s athleticism. Improving your dog’s agility levels enables him to navigate through various challenges with ease. There are several ways you can achieve this. You can try sports such as jumping, tunnels, jumping over tires, and chutes.
Hide and seek.
Another fun activity that you and your dog will enjoy is playing hide and seek. Find an extra person, then go into hiding in the backyard. While the extra person is holding the dog up, call out your pet’s name. If he happens to find you, award with praise or food. This game trains your dog to always run to you whenever you call them.
When it comes to backyard games, they can be entertaining, but at the same time. you need to practice caution. Games involving playing with water or toys need supervision. Also, you have to be alert so that your dog doesn’t lose concentration on other things such as trying to catch a bird or mice.
