If it is raining outside, it can be an absolute nightmare entertaining your dog. This applies to all breeds but especially those that always have to be doing something like Collies, Boxers and other similar breeds that are full of energy! Dog sports are traditionally done outside but there are a few dog sports and games that can be performed inside as well. They can really be lifesavers when the sky turns grey!

You can entertain your dog with indoor dog sports like the following:

• Contact – This is perfect for a home that has little in it to break! You basically get your dog a little riled up with a toy that he or she likes and then direct the dog around the house whilst maintaining a point of contact. The bottom of the stairs is perfect for this. Your dog will race around until her or she becomes tired. As such, you have a nice and quiet dog for the duration of the storm.
• Treasure hunt – This is basically like hide and seek but you can actually se treats to do it instead of toys or people! This of the dog sports is the most rewarding for the dog and also the most mental of the exercises. You plant the treats around your home and your dog then has to find them. You cold keep them in one room whilst you plant them and then use the scent of another treat to encourage them to look for the rest!
• Mini obstacle course – Finally, if your home is big enough, you can always set up a mini obstacle course in one of the rooms. You can use furniture for your dog to weave in and out of and even use softer couch cushions or jumps. Just make sure it is safe before you start, but this is perfect for training your dog as well as playing dog sports.
