- Categorized in: Showing and Events
When it comes to assessing the dog shows that take place every year in terms of which one is the most prestigious, there is only one candidate. The most world renowned of all dog shows on Earth is held in the UK every year and is the one that all owners that show their dogs want to qualify for. Crufts is the premier dog show and the oldest one currently in existence.
Crufts is currently organised by the UK branch of the Kennel Club and is held in March every year. It was first held in 1891 in the Islington Royal Agriculture Hall but the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham is its current home and has been since 1991, the 100th anniversary of the dog show to end all dog shows!
Like all of the best dog shows, Crufts features seven groupings, which are referred to as Toy, Utility, Gundog, Working, Pastoral, Terrier and Hound, with the winners of the seven going on to compete for best in show on the very last day. There are also several other classes including YKC, Flyball, Agility, Heel To Music and Obedience, all of which are just as prestigious as the groupings Crufts dog shows.
Crufts is most definitely the most prestigious of dog shows and regularly features more than 25,000 dogs, more than any other show. Over 1,000 of those dogs have been brought into the UK from their native countries worldwide in order to compete for the ultimate crown. If you are aiming for international dog shows success then Crufts is the place to be!
