A Responsible Dog Owner ...

  • 10/02/2011

When you have a pet, you need to take care of it to the greatest extent possible. Buying a pup is very easy but bringing it up and making it your own dog can be very difficult. A lot of responsibility comes with dog ownership.

To start, you need to really spend at least one hour of your day on its care grooming. First and foremost thing a dog owner should do is safeguarding it by giving it a collar which is unique and can be identified and attach a tag to your collar which talks about your (owner's) identity, phone number or address. In case you lose it in future, you are easily able to reach it or at least someone will reach it to you.

Secondly, taking care of your dog's health is also very important. Diseases should not spread to your family. Hence make sure you protect the dog and give him proper vaccination against all fatal diseases. Also give him bath regularly, especially if he is sharing a sofa and bed with the rest of your family. His cleanliness is your cleanliness.

You also should make sure to take your dog in for regular check ups with his veterinarian. Also take care to provide him the best diet possible, as well as constant access to drinking water. Remember: although you can speak and ask for water, your dog can't, and you need to keep a vigilant eye on his water bowl. Keep changing the water on a regular basis. Do it twice in a day if at all possible. And also provide him with nutritious diet and not just any random food which you eat.

Your dog should also get lot of exercises. Take him for walks twice in a day so that he also feels better and get his part of daily exercise. It is not good to keep your dog tied up all the time. This leads to boredom and as a result dogs become lazy and dull. The magnitude of exercise should depend on the age and breed if the dog. If you have an independent house of your own then try building a dog house. Provide your dog with all the things it needs.

Dogs are sociable animals and do not enjoy staying alone for a longer period of time. Try to spend much time with your dog, play with it and make it habituated to your living style. This will not only make your dog happier but also improve the bond between you and your dog.
