A Quick Guide To How AKC Dog Shows Work

If you have ever watched any of the dog shows that occur every year then you will probably have already worked out that there is a certain way in which dog shows work. There are certain methods and process that all dog owners and entrants have to conform to if they want to do well, from the lowliest of the dog shows to the national championship itself.

If you plan to show your dog in the near future then you will have to learn exactly how dog shows do work. Firstly, you should learn exactly how to handle your dog because without the correct handling, he or she will not win anything. Once you have learnt that part of the dog shows, you should learn how the dogs themselves are judged.

Each and every dog will be judged on several things whilst in a dog show, including gait, grooming and obedience, amongst other things. During each of these individual sections of the dog shows, your dog will be awarded so many points and it is this points tally that will determine where your pooch is placed. In many dog shows, you will find that there are categories for dogs and bitches so there will be fewer owners in each of the classes as a result, with two competitions running simultaneously.

Of course, each and every dog show is different so you should really familiarise yourself with the individual dog show’s rules in advance. This is the only way to fully understand what you are expected to do when you get there!

The reason is because Canine Ireland is NOT a valid registration company and is NOT recognised by anyone, especially the Irish Kennel Club. The ONLY registration that is recognised here and in Europe is the Irish Kennel Club.

All other companies are a  total waste of space and not worth the registration papers that they are printed on!
