An Eye - Opener on Golden Retriever Food

  • 30/11/2010

If you are looking for tips on golden retriever food and feeding, you have come to the right page. Here you will find short but direct pointers regarding your concern. My retriever and I have been together for 7 years and I am not proud to say that I have made some pretty bad mistakes in my dog's diet.

What is certain is, your dog is dependent on you for his nutritional needs. He does not grow up to be able to go to the market and buy food for himself or experiment in the kitchen and cook himself a meal. Remember that all your dog's life, there is one thing stable with his diet- you.
Here are some facts for you to ponder on. Dogs have been around for at least 15 thousand years. Commercial dog food is what? Perhaps 60 years in existence? When we look at the numbers, we realize that dogs have survived for thousands of years without commercially prepared food. That gives you something to think about, right?

The truth is, dogs just like humans, need fresh and healthy food. All of you would agree with me when I say that your doctors recommend that you eat a healthy, balanced diet. I have yet to know someone whose doctor recommend that they eat processed food everyday.
Our golden retrievers are no different.

Commercially processed food is so popular because of all the ads that greatly influence us. Who would not be enticed to buy and give our dogs juicy meat slabs that we all see on ads? But in reality, they are just rejects. Meat that does not pass for human consumptions are made into pet food. For business purposes, that makes sense than throwing away millions of dollars. Add in all the reject wheat and cereals, and invest in aggressive advertising, and voila! The pet food companies make money out of us.

Feeding your retriever food that is commercially processed, is of course, an option that only you can decide on. I am only sharing from personal experience. For the years that me and my dog have shared together, I try to observe what is good and what works best for him.

Golden retriever food should be natural and healthy. There was a time that I was affected by dog food commercials. My vet even strongly suggested that I buy a certain brand. But with time, I began to see that my dog is actually healthier with natural food.
