Adopting a Miniature Schnauzer

  • 23/11/2010

How lovingly adorable these little pups are! What a great companion and pet to have and enjoy for the whole family! If you are seeking to adopt one of these adorable cuties, but know nothing about them, then I suggest you research information about Miniature Schnauzers.

The Miniature Schnauzer is a mix between the regular sized Schnauzer and a Affenpinscher. The name of the dog is German and it means "muzzle." These dogs are very friendly and loving dogs that like to show affection towards other animals and humans. They have very bushy hair around their nose and mouth which resembles a mustache, and needs to stay trimmed and evened out every now and then. Prepare to either take them to a pet barber or learn to trim the hair yourself because it needs to be done.

The kind of owner that would be great for a Miniature Schnauzer would be an owner that would treat his/her pet like it's one of his children. They are very obedient if you give them the attention and the training that they need which wouldn't be hard to do because they are great listeners.

Sometimes if a Miniature Schnauzer is territorial, he can get aggressive towards other unfamiliar dogs and try to fight them. They actually think that they are bigger no matter what size the other dog is that they are being aggressive towards. To be on the safe side and keep your little Schnauzer from getting harmed, you should always keep him/her on a leash when you go to public places that are susceptible to having other dogs. It is very important that you do train you Miniature Schnauzer, because though they are sweet and loving dogs, they can gain aggressive behavior. If you get him acquainted earlier on with other dogs while he is still a puppy, then you most likely won't see any sort of aggression because of him being territorial.

Little dogs love to bark, and this includes the Miniature Schnauzer as well, because he can get hyper and excited and often is just trying to get the attention of its owner or other people. They have a high pitch bark, but the thing is, to keep him from barking too much you just simply need to train him so that he will know the commands of when he can and cannot bark. Overall dogs are dogs and most of them are going to bark, and depending on how good you train your dog will determine his manners and how much he will bark.

Miniature Schnauzers have long hair, so it is important that you comb or brush it daily to keep it from getting all matted up and tangled. Their hair also needs to be groomed and clipped on a regular basis and you should honestly leave it to a professional dog hairstylist to do this since there is a certain way that it should be done. At least let a professional do it the first couple of times and let them show you how to do it if you plan on doing it yourself.
