Things You Need For Bathing Your Dog

  • 10/03/2021
BathTime.jpgWashing your dog largely depends on the breed, environment, and lifestyle of your furry friend. Some breeds don’t need to be washed so often but if your dog is the outdoorsy type that doesn’t care what he rolls about in, then you will need to bathe him more frequently. Keep in mind though, that too much washing can strip your pet’s skin of its natural oils causing it to be dry, itchy and dandruff-prone.

If you’re a dog parent you’ll possible understand just how tedious a task bathing your pooch can be. We all hope that our pets would quietly be led to the tub and enjoy being lathered up- let’s face it, that’s just a dream for most pet parents.

While you can go crazy buying fancy pet supplies, here’s what you really need to make bathing your dog easier. For a start, you can shop dog grooming tubs here before you set up other supplies.

A Grooming Tub

Whether you are giving your dog a bath indoors or just hosing him down outside, a grooming tub is a great idea. It gives you much more control while washing your pooch, minimizes mess. There are a great deal of choices for grooming tubs to make washing easier at home.

The Right Shampoo

Choosing the right shampoo is not as difficult as there is a lot of variety out there. Pick a shampoo that’s best suited for your dog’s skin type. If you are not so sure, you can always ask your veterinarian or groomer to recommend something. If your dog has dry, itchy skin or any other skin condition, be sure to use a medicated shampoo. Dog shampoos, unlike those we use, help clean fur with minimal irritation – never use human shampoos on dogs.

Picking a shampoo that works as a conditioner too has an added advantage, especially for breeds that have thick fur and undercoats that tend to tangle (like a Retriever).

Wiping Down

You will possibly need towels, not just for your pooch but for yourself too. Most dogs tend to shake off after a bath, spraying water all over the place. Using microfibre towels not only absorb water better, they also help brush off loose hair that gets dislodged during the bath.

Brush Away

Brushing is important to avoid wet fur matting up. Brushes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, choosing the right one depends upon your dog’s fur. While bristle brushes are good for any kind of coat (even coarse ones), wire pin brushes are a good choice for breeds with medium to long hair. Slicker brushes work best with untangling knots and matts.

When you’re done shopping for dog grooming tubs here, and successfully given your pet a bath, don’t forget to give your dog his favorite treat – it’s why he’s been a good boy or girl all the while.
