5 Useful Tips To Travel With A Dog
- 03/01/2020
If you like traveling but you also like your pets, you may want to simply take them with you on your trip. However, there are some things to keep in mind when travel with your dog, so here are five useful tips for any traveling dog lover.
1. Bring Dog Food
Alright, this may sound like a no-brainer but some owners actually forget about food for their pets when packing. Don’t bring too much but don’t take too less either. Also make sure that the dog food that makes less poop, as you don't want to spend your trip clearing up messes the whole time. If you don’t want to take it with you, consider buying it already there, but make sure beforehand that it’s available.
You don’t want to be changing your dog's ration out of the blue. Also, don’t forget about their food and water bowls. You want to feed them from something, right? Human plates will do you no good in this trip, so always take your dog’s bowls with you.
2. Get Your Dog's Bed
It’s important that you get your dog’s bed and/or crate with you. If they aren’t used to sleeping on the floor, it will be quite stressful for them if you don’t get their bed. Your dog needs to have something that will give them security and a bed is just that.
If you use a blanket on the bed, it’s best you take it too, especially if you are going someplace cold. Keep in mind that your dog needs to have comfort just like you do, so it’s only logical that you provide them with it.
3. Check Opportunities
Always check whether or not the place you will be staying at allows pets. It will be an unfortunate surprise for you if you suddenly discover that the landlord of your apartment or the hotel doesn’t want your dog inside.
If you don’t know the language of the country where you are going to, consider using a translation service like The Word Point to translate information for you. It’s an easy solution for when auto-translators fail.
4. Pack Additional Supplies
Alright, so you took the food, the bowls, and the bed. However, it still feels like something’s missing. This is because there are usually some other things you might need including:
- Toys: Very useful if you have a puppy or your dog is simply restless.
- Treats & Bones: For when they seem to be stressed.
- Medicine: You can’t predict every situation, so it’s good to have this with you.
- Collar, Leash, & Harness: Pretty obvious.
- 5. Don’t Stress About Your Dog
And last but not least, don’t worry about them too much! Your dog will not have the same eating, sleeping, and drinking habits and everything will look new and exciting to them just like it is for you.
Final Thoughts
To sum up, these are the basics that any dog owner should know before taking their beloved pet on a trip. Some of these are easier said than done, but you'll definitely get the hang of them after several trips!
