Call The Puparazzi! Dog Owners In Milan Are Matching Their Pet's Clothing With Their Own

We all adore our dogs and pet owners in Milan are taking their puppy love to a whole new level with a stylish new trend.

They are matching their pet's clothing to their own as couture for dogs sweeps Italy.

Fashion designer Giovanna Temellini is the mastermind behind a new clothing line that dresses dogs in elegant and specially tailored threads.

Ms Temellini was inspired to start making fancy doggy outfits after a conversation with her daughter just under a year ago.

The 57-year-old, who is an avid supporter of animal welfare groups, told ArabNews that her daughter asked for help with her pet.

Her daughter said: 'You do so many little things for all the dogs but when it rains, mine gets his ears all wet.'

These words inspired Mrs Temellini to use her 25 years of experience working for labels like Armani to design a doggy clothing line, called Temellini Dog A Porter.

The next evening, a member of Temellini Milano's design team got to work on making a hooded jacket for the dog.

The jacket matches Mrs Temellini's daughter's winter coat, the matching design marking the start of the trend.

From there sprung her tailored fashion line just for dogs with its first shop opening this month.

Her designers use a dog-shaped mannequin to create a range of sizes for different breeds, including Dobermans, basset hounds and greyhounds.

Mrs Temellini says that her line is born out of love and dog owners in Milan are certainly showing plenty of love for their pets.

Each commission sees the canines have their measurements taken to ensure a snug fit.

One dark grey jacket from her dogs' range has a high collar with buttons down the front.

The fabric matches a woman's over-sized coat from Temellini's main collection, for women, which she first started 15 years ago.

But owners have to have a lot of love for their dogs with the focus on high-quality fabrics and stylish cuts meaning a cashmere T-shirt costs 142 euro (£126), a merino wool bomber jacket 212 euro (£188) and a coat with small pockets 252 euro (£223).

But the steep prices haven't put off some dog lovers in Milan.

One customer snapped up an entire wardrobe for his dog, adopted from a shelter, because 'she deserved it.'

Twenty-four-year-old student, Beatrice Gerevini, likes to coordinate her dog's outfit with her own because she believes it creates a connection between them.

Others enjoy watching people smile at them when they notice the matching outfits.

Mrs Temellini continues to do some work for other labels too and says she wants to create a collection suitable for all dogs, including those with disabilities.

She said: 'I am very respectful and attentive to all the requirements of dogs which are to be able to move, run, get dirty and socialize.'

Mrs Temellini also believes that dogs shouldn't be restricted by the flashy clothing.
