Puppy Care 101: 9 Tips to Keep in Mind
- 01/01/2014
Puppies are like babies, they need a lot of time and effort for them to grow up and stay healthy. Yes, it would be a lot of job taking care of one but these hardships are going to be worth it once you see your puppy wagging its tail at you whenever you get home from work or whenever it cuddles you while you are just sitting idly. Below are the things that you must know about puppy care.
1. You should make your puppy comfortable at your home
It would help if you would be able to bring a blanket or dog bed to the breeder about a week before you bring the puppy home. This will help the puppy get accustomed to the bed.
2. You should provide your puppy with a food and water bin and dry bedding
It is ideal that each puppy should have its own bowl. The bedding should be placed in a warm area; the kitchen is most ideal due to its washable floor.
3. Have a safe playing area for your pet
Most of the time, fencing a part of your yard is ideal. You can also check for safe toys that your pet can play with.
4. You should handle your puppy with care
Like being cautious when handling a baby, you should watch your puppy's chest whenever you carry it.
5. You should also pet your puppy as often as you can
Petting means stroking your puppy's head, chest, back side and feet. This would make the puppy feel loved and cared for. This also increases the bond between the owner and the pet.
6. Your puppy should always be fed properly
It should always have enough amount of water. Also, it should be fed the prescribed puppy food several times a day depending on the age of the puppy.
7. The puppy should also get ample amount of exercise
The amount of exercise needed varies on the breed of your puppy. You should know the proper requirement for your pet to avoid injury while the puppy is growing up.
8. Have your puppy vaccinated
Your veterinarian will tell you as to which vaccines are required and when.
9. You should let your puppy socialize
It's important that your puppy have all vaccinations required first before letting it out to the world. This would avoid it contracting diseases from other dogs.
